Cracking episode, but Izzy, she has to go.
Sleepin_Dragon6 February 2022
Neville and team investigate the death of a young pop singer, not only does he have that to deal with, but he also has his noisy sister to contend with.

This was a very enjoyable episode, and after last week's somewhat disappointing episode, the series is very much back on track. A good mystery, good set of characters, and a victim that I felt incredibly sorry for, a cruel death in Paradise.

It wasn't perfect, there were a few irritations, the main ones being Neville's carrying on with the toothbrush, and Izzy, oh my days, she's the most irritating character I can think of, she makes Ruby (from the past) seem subtle. She has to go.

I am absolutely delighted to see the return of Darlene here, Ginny Holder is perfect for the part, how lovely that we'll get to see more of her.

Lovely acting throughout, it is always a joy to see anything featuring the wonderful Camille Coduri.

Terrific shots and locations once again, it looked incredible, especially on a cold February night.

Very good, 8/10.

Main story OK, but the subplot....
keysam-0261011 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing wrong with the main plot, and good for Darlene for not bowing to the outrageous pressure from the clinic owner to just "go quietly".

But the subplot with Neville's sister turning up is REALLY irritating. As ever with a character like this, there's a strong implication that Neville is the one who's being unreasonable, when she just turns up and starts doing whatever the heck she likes, wrecking his home & life. He should chuck her out on her ear. I don't care if she's his sister, she needs to learn to act like a reasonable adult.

Very much hoping she goes back the the UK asap, preferably having been thoroughly blasted for her selfishness first.

Irritating Izzy
safenoe16 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The pop world intersects with a rehab, and also Neville's sister, Izzy visits. I'd say that the toothbrush in the main plot is more likeable that Izzy for sure. Anyway, let's hope that Kate O'Flynn (who plays Izzy) gets a better deal as season 11 progresses.

Ginny Holder joins the main cast team, with Dwayne being mentioned of course.

A solid episode!
harrykivi1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The 11th season of "Death in Paradise" has been quite good so far with only the previous episode being very disappointing. This entry is good, but far away from the series' best.

Let' s start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of this episode are great. The direction's beautiful and the music fits the scenery. The acting is very good for the most part. Ginny Holder is fantastic in particular.

. The mystery is intriguing. There are some good twists and turns, the humor mostly works.

But....

. There is some sloppy writing here and there. Some plotpoints are a bit too convenient to ring true and Dr Fuller being the murderer I found too obvious. He was a person of interest early on and the other characters were not given strong-enough motives for murder- I thought.

Overall, a solid one.

7/10 HK.

General review...
jaywalkeruk-15 January 2024
I've loved DIP since the start but I find myself getting annoyed now at some of the things that pop up now. Things like Naomi always referring to Florence as "Sarge" - they're the same rank, she'd call her by name (this may have happened with JP too); Naomi always wearing her hat indoors - why?? Also, why the introduction of really annoying characters? At least Parker was made less so, probably due to audience reaction, but Ruby would never have made it as a cop, Marlon would have been disciplined for insubordination and as for Izzy... I understand that it's fiction, I understand that it's meant to be light-hearted but can we please have a moratorium on characters that produce homicidal feelings in the viewers? 😂

Episode 11.5
Prismark107 February 2022
Ayana Jelani is a young pop star who might still be alive if she only said no no no to rehab.

Instead she is found dead in a rehabilitation clinic in Saint Marie. It seems like an accidental death as Jelani was allergic to aspirin and that she was given this as part of her medication.

Darlene Curtis is the nurse who gave the medicine and she protests her innocence. She was also a friend of Dwayne. Commissioner Patterson lends a sympathetic ear.

DI Neville is puzzled by a toothbrush that was placed upside down.

The previous episode was disappointing. This was a much better story. It had several suspects who might have had a motive to harm Jelani. The investigating team which has been diminished since Florence left all step up.

I was puzzled as to why Neville's irritating sister was introduced. Also why did she need to ring Catherine Bordey's bar as she lost her own brother's mobile phone number. Surely someone else in the family had his number or just try emailing him.

What did we do to deserve Izzy?
sicklittlebunny27 February 2022
Why do writers punish us loyal fans by inflicting awful characters on us?

And in the same episode bring back a great character just to keep us watching. Ain't nobody changing channels on Darlene. (The channels are metaphorical)

There was no need for a gobby, selfish, rude nightmare of a sister to turn up and I feel that dragging out that "storyline" over multiple episodes is unnecessarily cruel.

Izzy honestly ruined the entire episode for me as she's just so flippin annoying.

After the first viewing I just skip her scenes, but that spoils the experience too.

The main story is really good, I worked out who and how within the first 15 mins, but the why kept me guessing and that's rather enjoyable.

I also enjoyed Marlon and Naomi having bigger parts in the episode and watching their growing relationship.

Personally, I really like Neville, he's a wonderful blend of Richard and Humphrey. Or maybe a continuation of Richard's character, the more laid-back version he might have become had he had more time.

Lousy writing
spamd4224 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Either the manuscript makes no sense or the Saint Marie Police are amateurs.

1. No mention of how long the victim was dead. This would immediately put the nurse in the clear.

2. No checking the pills in the cabinet.

3. No checking the magnesium pills until the very end.

4. No wondering where the toothpaste is or testing if it contained aspirin.

5. No checking the victim's teeth to notice whether she had brushed her teeth.

6. No checking for indentations on the writing block to read the letter. Instead relying on a near-impossible zoom on a camera.

7. No proof at all - just speculation.

Izzy is a terrible idea. :-(
eworsini5811 June 2022
This show has always blended a good mystery with the fish out of water theme and genuine commraderie, affection and humor with the variety of characters. The introduction of DI's sister Izzy is distracting and annoying. Not funny at all. Her character adds nothing to any storyline, and disrupts the wonderful flow that had been consistent for 11+ seasons. Hope her tenure is a short one.

Not great
studioAT13 February 2022
Alarm bells started ringing for me in this episode the minute Dwayne was mentioned. I had a horrible feeling that he'd end up returning as the new DI.

Instead we got the even more annoying Izzy, Neville's sister, who was a terrible character it seems we are now stuck with for the foreseeable.

Not a great murder mystery storyline either.

What a huge downgrade....

We lose Florence and get Izzy. A major step down for this show. Izzy is a very annoying character. I'm very disappointed. Used to like this show very much.

Issues with Darlene character make me cringe
kristanmarieanderson24 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The return of character Darlene is cringeworthy. Actor Ginny Holder does a fantastic job, playing a meek, 180 degree version of the previously seen Darlene. However, for fans of the show, and the tour-de-force Darlene who put Dwayne in his place, this drastic change is frustrating and not something one can buy into no matter how much we want to. I wish her boisterous personality had shown through as she re-enters the storyline. Seeing her push her way into the police station group would add some spice to some benign characters and hum drum storylines.

This must also be stifling for the actor and I feel her talents are lost. I am not sure if the casting loved the actor enough to want her back, but the fit in this character in this storyline is all wrong. Having watched 12 seasons this is my biggest frustration, even beyond how annoying they made Nevin, initially (annoying and hypochondriac is one thing, but this extreme was cringe and almost unwatchable). This all comes from a true fan who wants to enjoy every morsel.
