I loved this film and all of its shortcomings. Regardless of artistic and technical shortcomings, this film set out to be entertaining, and it absolutely entertained me! I'd recommend it to people looking for a "so-bad-it's-good" film. It's a bit of a slow burn (as opposed to something like The Room), but I found it incredibly charming, and it kept me engaged with its stand out characters and moments.

Excruciatingly stilted

Warning: Spoilers
EVAN STRAW is an extremely cheap independent ghost story, shot on video with just a handful of actors. The main character is a middle aged woman whose husband is killed in a car wreck at the outset. She moves into a home which turns out to be haunted, and the story goes from there. This seems to be trying to be one of those lame diluted TV movie ghost tales but it falls down thanks to the excruciatingly stilted acting from the non-professional cast members; watching them exchange dialogue is the pits. I found it all rather embarrassing.

I really liked this movie
pahvou-254466 August 2022
To begin with, I have no affiliation with anyone involved with this movie. I gave it ten stars because I liked it, and not because I'm trying to promote it for someone. I lived in a supposedly haunted house for 26 years. The house was constructed in 1895 by a Mormon polygamous, with six wives and a slew of children. I only had one experience with, I assume the previous occupants, but visiting quest had many. Almost all had seen a young girl, about 12, with long blonde hair and dressed in a pioneer style dress. Most notably wearing those old style boots that are tightly laced around the ankle. Of interest, nobody seemed unusually disturbed on seeing the young girl. What I liked about the movie was nobody was killed, no blood was splattered on the walls, or heads rolling down a flight of steps. It was just a good ghost story, that I could relate to. ,

Birdemuc vibes

The camerawork, lighting, sound..everything about this movie is awful but I really enjoyed watching this with my husband, joking about the nonsense. Kudos to the camera people who seem to have spent most of their time almost falling down stairs, lying or kneeling on the floor and shaking about each scene.

The date shows this was released on 2010 but it feels very 90s! The house decor is appropriately dated with it being an old house but the fashion choices, especially for the main character are very odd. The effects too! So many odd font choices for this too. I just knew it would be awful!

Worth a watch if you want something truly terrible to watch. Not scary at all, just hilarious!

Good But Needed A Bigger Budget
ladymidath14 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a pretty fun movie with a unique premise. The scares are okay, a little tame, but this was not meant to be an intense movie like Saw or The Exorcist. The acting is surprisingly solid and even though the movie looked cheap, it still worked.

I thought as first, it was going to be another found footage film, but that was not the direction it went in. The effects were okay, but it was done on a tight budget and it shows, still I have seen much worse, you can see the effort that was put in, the story itself was interesting and I didn't expect it to move away from the conventional ghost story but it worked.

It is a good movie, it could have been better with a bigger budget.
