This film will violate your funny bone

Operation: Get Rid of Pinky is a dark comedy with a very serious theme that is all wrapped up in what are probably the most politically incorrect jokes you could imagine. Basically a new drug hits the streets and with it a super villain emerges, whose purpose is unclear, but it is certain that she means business and uses questionable methods to get it done. This film is not for the fainthearted. In fact, the most common response that the filmmakers hear is "What the f- did I just see?"

What happens when illicit drugs reach your neighborhood? Apparently loads of public indecency, gratuitous violence, and herds of zombies hanging out on the streets. Add out-of- the-blue slap-stick humor, outrageous circumstances, graphic scenes you wouldn't want your kid to see, and you too will be wondering what you just watched and how you can get rid of the image burned to your retina... Fun Indy movie
mikeeraw6 May 2012
I gotta say I enjoyed the hell out of this. It was wayyyyyyy off the wall and corny...But fun. Thats the important thing here. After watching this I came on IMDb to check out info on the film and was shocked to see it only cost 20k to make. The film makers made the most out of it.

The quality is very very good for a budget that low. The acting is great but its far from bad.

A lil too much thrown at me at the end but Id like to see the story continue. Lastly the portrayal of the Phila Police was dead on and ill never look at a blow up doll the same again...EVER!!

I don't even know where to begin with this film. Started off slow but after the first ten minutes I honestly haven't laughed this hard since the Hangover. If you like over-the-top comedy this is the movie for you.

The acting in the film is hit or miss but characters like Pinky, the Rabbi and the Crooked Cop, make up for some of the other lackluster performances that appear in the movie. For me the biggest surprise of the movie was how good the soundtrack was! I enjoy all kinds of music and Pinky probably has every genre of music in it. Whoever scored the film did an excellent job.

I found myself laughing all through the movie. Don't want to post any spoilers but there are some really crazy stuff going on in this movie to say the least. I lost it when I saw the "costume" the main character had to wear for his job. You have to see it to believe it!

Pinky is a must see for anyone that loves a good laugh, even if it is inappropriate to do so at times. Looking forward to the sequel!

Review of Operation: Get Pinky by Mark Polito: I found out about this interesting and very enjoyable debut film by Matthew Merz from a show called Reel Times hosted by Alex Bove on CCP's cable television station. I love to watch Indy films because they are made by individuals who have a great energy and enthusiasm for film. Their intentions are pure and unadulterated. Even the so-called failures are good because of the love for what they are doing. The show opened with Matt Merz being interviewed by Alex Bove, a professor at Community College. I liked Matt's honesty about the production of the film and his stories involved in the process of getting it completed. I was looking forward to watching the film just by watching him talk about it. The movie came on and I saw a realism in this first effort film that brought me back to the very early films of Martin Scorsese-Who's That Knocking at My Door; Spike Lee-Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We cut Heads; and even early John Cassavetes - Shadows. The film was directed by Matt and written by both he and Chet Johnson. The film opens with Dave Carew (Darnell Coney) coming home from the military to a neighborhood that has changed for the worse since he left it. He just wants to make a decent living and meet a nice girl, maybe even a not-so-nice girl. Earning a living is harder than he thought it was going to be and he sees his old friends who warn him about a drug dealer called Pinky who sells a drug called Pink Powder that is tearing up the neighborhood and its young people. He ends up being forced to work for Pinky and the twists and turns at the end are exciting and for you to see for yourself. Buy the DVD and enjoy it. The film is abundant with what I felt was truthful dialogue, acting, writing and the shots of Philadelphia are beautiful in a very authentic way. I grew up here and so did the director who shows his love for this city in every scene. This movie for me was like watching Scorsese's Mean Streets for the very first time. Kudos to the actors, writers, director and everyone else involved with this first great effort. Looking forward to more movies by these fellows. Thanks guys, keep up the love.

Outlandish, Unconventional, and Hilarious Movie
Marticuus1 May 2012
Don't let the fact that you may not have heard of this movie stop you from checking it out. You won't know what to expect, even if someone were to explain it to you, and that's a wonderful thing. This movie mines laughs in places few filmmakers attempt to find them, and if they do try, they rarely succeed. Yes, it can be somewhat obscene at times, but it's not really anything you haven't seen before. But ...Pinky is not reliant on the obscene to get you laughing. There are smart, unexpected moments that show that the filmmakers weren't out to make the same old comedy you've seen, and forgotten, countless times before. They took chances, and those chances paid off. Now, you give this movie a chance. You will not be disappointed.

A must-see for fans of Indy or comedy
a-graham7101 May 2012
This edgy dark comedy is a must-see for anyone wanting big laughs, and especially for those who can appreciate the film's representation of urban society. Operation: Get Rid of Pinky portrays the streets of Philadelphia in a way which rings true to the gritty setting; creating an environment which is as exaggerated and absurd as it is realistic and street-smart. This film contains enough comic fodder to satisfy a fan of raunchy, vulgar comedy— loaded with hilarious characters (Officer Dickman, Lew the Jew) and plot twists (see for yourself!)— while providing a social satire which penetrates on a deeper level. Operation: Get Rid of Pinky is a gem among Indy flicks, and should not be missed by anyone ready to enter the absurd domain in which Pinky is ruler— not always far-off from our own backyards.
