CHAOS - not your ordinary Friday night show
Squeezyenz4 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
a lot has been said in the lead up to this series being shown. Some has been based on the few snippets from the pilot, the trailers, and articles posted by those, supposedly, in the know. Critics have panned it, remaining stuck in their rut about what television should convey or be about, or to promote their own favorites above anything new or innovative. A common complaint is that Chaos is derivative, but I've yet to see a program aired within the last five years that doesn't fall into that category. There's nothing new under the sun in storytelling, characters or plot lines, so what are you left with? The actors themselves, for the most part. In Chaos, we are blessed with an ensemble cast of, not only good looking, but very experienced actors who not only look comfortable with each other on screen, but also confident in their craft, in bringing their characters to life with very few lines in a fast paced, lean production. There is nothing predictable in Chaos, unlike the endless crime shows and reality programs that endlessly fill our screens, and it has a quirky edge, along with a witty sense of humor, tongue firmly in cheek, that appeals very much to those prepared to appreciate the subtle and overtly outrageous all at the same time. Likening the cast and set up to the Four Musketeers is pretty spot on, and not spoon feeding the audience is a refreshing change. I like to be kept guessing what's going to happen next, I like the level of humor without a laugh track - the most patronizing invention ever created by television - and the actors themselves are eminently watchable just because they are enjoying the roles they've been given to the hilt. I'm sorry that CBS has chosen to give Chaos such a poor start in life, but if the growing legion of fans have anything to do with it, they will hope that the series is picked up without hesitation. I will mention that I thought Freddy Rodriguez was a stand out in his performance, and the others were just as entertaining. Chaos is maybe not new to others too jaded to appreciate just what it's trying to achieve, but I was hugely entertained, and look forward to seeing more. Roll on next Friday. And yes, I know I'm not supposed to have seen it, being situated on the other side of the world, shut out by CBS to be able to view the clips etc, but as I always say "where there's a will, there's away", and a true fan will always find a way.

Great Work by the Casting Team.
alan_paul17 April 2011
The brilliant work of the casting team (Steve Brooksbank and Mary Jo Slater) deserves high praise here. The lead actors have proved themselves elsewhere and they almost make this work. Unfortunately, the poorly directed pilot episode probably means this new series is DOA. Poor choices were made: in the overall tone, pacing, camera angles, shot selection, action that violates screen direction repeatedly; and so much more. The chaotic work of the director takes the viewer out of the story, causes confusion about what is happening, sets up and then deflates the impact of comedic punchlines, etc. Editing and music cues improve upon but cannot cover up the badness of the raw footage. The director of this mess does not appear on camera, but he is the most important character in this pilot episode and, apparently, that was just what he was going for.

Chaos is Chaotic-Can't Get Much Worse than This *

Warning: Spoilers
Terrible show where a CIA agent is recruited to be a mole only to have the group turn the tables on him. The show has a foolish premise with the CIA agents running all over the place to rescue people that the CIA normally doesn't free.

As is the case with this kind of group, you really can't trust anyone including the writers for this poorly crafted show.

While watching this mess, I was thinking that this show might be a cross between Get Smart and Mad Men. At least, these shows had or have a purpose.

The title is most appropriate since this is exactly what the show becomes within a few moments. There is absolutely cohesion and a better title would have been A Mission Totally Impossible.

There has to be massive rewriting and purpose. Everyone here is suspicious of everyone else and we should all focus our suspicions on the writers of this absolute mess.
