As the title implies, this is a documentary showcasing the work of three true glories of the universal cinema: Michele Morgan, Danielle Darrieux, and Micheline Presle. For some unknown reason, Ms. Presle does not even appear in the cast, something we have tried to correct, to no avail. The interesting thing is that Ms. Presle is the most visible presence of the three French women in the film.
The three actresses had their start in their native France, where they went to make a name for themselves in careers that have endured the passing of time. Only Ms. Morgan is not active at the present time. Ms. Darrieux and Ms. Presle have appeared in recent films. The interesting fact about the trio is that they appeared in some productions in combinations with only two at one given time, but never at the same time, with one notable exception.
The creators of the documentary takes us back to the time when the three actresses went to America during WWII. Having enjoyed wide popularity in France, the three ladies did not find the success they deserved in Hollywood, perhaps because of the timing that did not help them win roles that went to other popular women working in movies at the time.
If the American adventure did not paid off, their return to their country was the right decision for them. The mandatory clips of their movies interspersed with interviews where they speak to the camera. The three women have lived glamorous lives, but remain friendly toward each other as it clearly comes out in the documentary.
Pierrick Becquet and Henri-Jean Servat assembled the historical material as well as conduct, off camera, the interviews. The result is an excellent account of the lives of three stars that have given audiences pleasure through their films that will be their testament of the rich lives they lived.
