A very thoughtful short film

"What really matters in life?" asks Joel, our lonely hero (played by Gracindo Júnior), the chief of an armored car who's doing value transportation along with three other colleagues.

He questions his life up until that moment, the wasted moments working like a dog and barely having the money to spend with his family and to enjoy it as well. Then, tragedy takes place: one of his colleagues decides to take over the car, steal the money and if he won't succeed in that, he'll kill everybody inside the car. An intelligent premise and a quite thrilling experience, "Carro Forte" delivers a lot more than just a suspenseful story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat while making you question about people who risk their lives in order to perform their work and you'll probably question about your own personal working issues.

So, there's a traitor in the group, a spooky performance by Camilo Beviláqua, and this dangerous takes over the situation and eliminates two obstacles right away. It all comes down to him deal with his boss, of whom we noticed they had some quarrels before the incident. And invisible to us, there's other robbers on the outside just waiting for the money and their partner to come out. All of that causes our hero to stop day-dreaming and get to back to dangerous scenario put in front of him and try to find ways to get out of there alive. But after witnnessing all the tragedy and misery of his life and the countless complaints he makes throughout the journey, what's the point of being alive?

"Carro Forte" asks us deep questions in the middle of a tense situation where two men must find a balance between action and thought and how sometimes those two combined can create a positive effect. Although Joel seems lost in confusion with so many things on his head, little by little he goes into action mode because although the other guy is fully armed and in control of the situation, he's mostly nervous and one small mistake could jeopardize his whole mission. But...I'm not gonna spoil the fun and enjoyment from you.

Gracindo Júnior is a very good actor who doesn't get the credit he deserves, and he usually plays supporting characters in countless TV series. But in this rare moment as a leading guy he was very interesting. You can sense his inner conflict at each moment goes by and the few flashbacks showing his love and admiration for his family, moments that he treasures but can't enjoy all that much since he's too involved with his work for long hours and not getting enough payment for his family (or maybe he does get paid well but there's never a time to spend with family and friends). It's one of those situations that happens in almost everyone's lives. And for what, really? What really matters? Because to him, there's too many risks and very few gain with it and he's stuck in this scenario of danger, risk, violence, trapped inside the armored car and he never would imagine that a co-worker would turn out against him. There's so many issues going on and we're involved in it just to thinking them through.

Like many thought-provoking short films, we think and wonder... Congratulations to everyone involved, and if possible please turn this short into a feature film. 9/10.
