Sticking up for this show
xbatgirl-3002924 April 2022
I have to stick up for this show to counter all the other reviews. I've been watching since the beginning of the season and enjoy it every week. I fact it's one of the very few broadcast tv shows I still watch. OTOH, I did check out Part One of this show by watching the opening episode on the original NCIS for the first time in years. In contrast to Hawaii, it's gotten positively geriatric and sloooow. I much prefer the gorgeous scenery each week from Hawaii and the younger, more energetic cast. But to each their own. For those claiming they probably don't shoot in Hawaii, you obviously didn't even watch the first 5 minutes. Because they spend extensive time outdoors in every episode. And it's not like CBS hasn't been filming multiple shows on location there for years.

As for this particular episode, adding Wilmer V. To the mix did unfortunately create some awkward energy. It almost felt like he was on quaaludes or something. And why such an angry look all the time? It was actually a relief whenever they cut to a scene he wasn't in. Perhaps too much time on the other show rubbed off on him.

The other person from original NCIS, Jessica?, fit in better with the cast. Ernie was hilarious, in a cringey sort of way, calling her "M'lady" and bowing to her. The "T N T" backstory was too forced but still a little funny.

The show has really come together over the past season and is developing its own personality. I'm especially pleased Lucy's ex seems to be gone. They had so little chemistry, it was the opposite of chemistry. Being single really allows Lucy to shine more without that incredibly awkward storyline. Glad the coroner seems to be getting more time as well - I really like her. So happy the show is getting a second season!

Better episode than most

Warning: Spoilers
But, I doubt it will save the show. Having Torres and Knight on the island was a good attempt at resurrection; however, I think it will take a lot more to save the show. Love the scenery, but not the characters so much. Too bad, 'cause it could've been a great show.

Oy time will tell...

For me, they blew it

This was my first time watching this show, drawn in by the crossover with NCIS. But I won't be watching it further. Too much of the episode consisted of boring dialogue. And when there was action, it was executed in an implausible manner.

The producers et. Al. Had a great opportunity to pull out all stops and present a showcase story that would pull in a lot of new viewers. But I don't believe they tried very hard. An unimpressive show.

Worst Crossover Ever
manofkent-668763 April 2022
The initial NCIS part of this was contrived enough dragging back anyone from the past they could find in an attempt to rekindle what has so obviously been lost by the show. It failed

That they allowed this dreadful spin off to further sully the reputation of its once great but now struggling forebear with this contrived crossover just adds insult to injury. The simple reality is NCIS Hawaii should never have been made.

The dialogue is superficial and pedestrian, the storylines hackneyed and lame, the nicey nicey characters would be better suited to 'Saved By The Bell' (original series not the sequel) and and have no credibility as agents (they are simply not believable, the acting, if you can even call it that is empty and insincere and the overall presentation is utterly forgettable.

Further to that the increasingly cringeworthy character of Jessica Knight from the main NCIS on appearing in Hawaii seemed to be in her element. The character which has always lacked the dramatic bite to replace Ziva and Ellie seemed far more at home back in Hawaii participating in the stomach churning kitsch of this NCIS parody based in Hawaii.

The only blessing is we didn't suffer another interlude of Lucy and the blonde one vacillating over their broken relationship again when its abundantly clear to anyone watching neither of them are emotionally mature enough to even contemplate dating.

All in all they should just put this dreadful show out of its misery and cancel it. I know I won't be watching season two if it happens.

Circle dialogue exposition dump
bosporan29 March 2022
Shows like this often suffer from groups sitting together taking rapid-cut turns to speak with each participant delivering a slither of plot/narrative. This device is used to break up exposition dumps and can be effective when used sparingly. This show, and this episode in particular, hangs from this crutch without much else to support it.

Hard to connect
michaelr-200005 April 2022
Aside from the strange math to get the average stat of reviews. (I come up with roughly 2.8 & not 7 ish.) I was interested in the crossover hoping it would improve acting & script but alas not too much. But I still found it hard to identify or connect with any of the "original" cast. I gave it a 5 for Wilmer & Katrina. I once again tried to give this spinoff an honest look-see, but was sadly disappointed.

A waste of Wilmer and Katrina's talents.
Carycomic30 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I managed to sit through the first forty-five minutes of this Sweeps Weeks fiasco. Almost literally praying it would get better by the time they revealed the Big Motive for everything that was going on. No such luck!

In the end, it turned out to be a recycling of "Enigma." A 2004 episode of NCIS: TOS that guest-starred Terry O'Quinn as a USMC colonel who had commanded Gibbs during the Persian Gulf War. The only difference in plot between the two episodes being that the stolen money, in this case, came from Afghanistan rather than Iraq!

So, as far as I'm permanently concerned, CBS can cancel the rest of this ill-advised spin-off, right away.

CROSSOVER DESTROYED
wkin3 April 2022
NCIS hawaii... is one of the worst series of all time. They managed in a ridiculous crossover to destroy the reputation of the good old NCIS (I miss Gibbs). Ridiculous series. Ridiculous characters. RIP.

Waste of time.
katerinasotiriadh30 March 2022
Not even the great, talented Katrina and Wilmer could save it. The show sucks. Change the cast or cancelled it yesterday. The characters are bland the plots without any interest. It's a pity for Larry Teng who wrote amazing episodes for H50.

Tennant needs to go
rguilliams10 April 2022
The writers really messed up with this one. Having Knight in this crossover was a huge mistake. She showed more leadership ability in 30 seconds of talking to Ernie than Tennant does with all her her strutting and cheesy bravado. They need to fire Tennant and bring Knight over from DC.

Disappointed again
denise-dargan3314 April 2022
Like other reviewers I thought it would bring some credibility to the show but no such luck. Anyone notice Torres and Knight were never seen together? It begs the fact we're they both there in Hawaii. The photos shown at the end of the show were photo shot so not real as you can tell by Toress's face. Please give up on this awful NCIS spin-off, the acting, sorry the lack of acting is giving NCIS a bad name.

Did not like it at all
harrykivi26 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"NCIS" has done crossovers since the 6th season. It started off with "Legend Part 1 and 2", which was quite good actually. Starting from the 12th season "NCIS" has done crossovers, where half of the story is shown in one series, the other half in another series. I haven't been a fan of that idea, because I don't want to be forced to watch a show I do not care for as much as NCIS. Still I gave this episode a chance. "TNT" though is not good at all, find it quite bad to be honest. It's one of the rare episodes in the "NCIS" universe I could not finish.

Let's start with the good.

. Hawaii is gorgeous to look at and some of the acting is not awful. Wilmer Valderrama, Vanessa Lachey, Jason Antoon, Katrina Law, Gary Cole do what they can.

But....

. This is one of the few times in "NCIS", where I was not keen on the production values. The direction feels stiff, the action is agreed not well-filmed and the episode feels dull. The acting is not always spot on. Yasmine Al-Bustami and Noah Mills don't do much for me. Do agree too that story fails to ignite, the dialogue's vanilla, the jokes mostly fall flat.

Overall, did not like it.

2/10 HK.
