Character driven episode
Saving2118 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode like last week episode focused on character story and the NCIS mission is secondary. But not like last week, that to me was weak, this episode felt better. Maybe the reason is that it wasn't a social issue that the writers can't write properly, instead it was on the core characters. In this case Callen and his rewrite past and Sam dealing with his father that suffers from dementia, there was also talk about last week's events with Roundtree and Fatima but It wasn't interesting. With Callen even tho it feels they are over playing with his past (rewriting it every season) it was interesting story about Cold War doings and Hetty and I loved that they brought back Nate. It was about time Callen will have chat with Nate, if any character needs it Callen is it. It will be interesting to see what it will lead up to. Sam and his father is just at the start so we need to see how it evolves, to see how the writers write it, they got kensi& Deeks baby story to be boring.

The plot of the week was kidnapped dog while it was cute story and I loved how everyone cared for the guy. We need to be back to big action story with great action scenes that made NCIS LA stand out. Covid time is behind us we need to be back to the basics Callen Sam Kensi and Deeks shooting and beating guys with style and humour.

Better storyline
jimbokwright22 April 2022
Tonight's episode had a better storyline than what we've been shoved so far this season. Unfortunately the acting performance from the entire cast was half arse. It sounded like they were reading lines doing a walk through.

MWD - NCIS: Los Angeles
bobcobb30117 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This has probably been done before, but off the top of my head I cannot remember when we had a procedural with the police desperately trying to find a dog. Regardless, kind of a fun concept and something that added a little bit of freshness to the show.

This was pretty much by the book though and down to a tee of hiting all of the NCIS: Los Angeles cliches though. I accept that thirteen seasons in we can't get magic every single night though, and this was fine popcorn TV viewing. That's probably the best we are going to get for the remainder of the show's run on CBS and I am fine with that fact.

An episode that provides some much-needed light-heartedness.
Carycomic19 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Most of that light-heartedness, of course, came from the interrogation of the deputy sheriff's ex-husband as to whether or not he had put out the contract on Sergeant Boomer's life. Because my own parents argue just like that! The topics might differ. But, the tone remains the same.

That the contract was actually issued by a drug-dealing gang of convicts ("loosely" based on the Aryan Brotherhood) who stage illegal dog-fights on the side only lends more credence to what I said about the dog-fighting ring broken up by Gibbs in last year's "Watchdog" episode of the original series.

But, all that takes a back seat to the subplots involving Callen and Sam. My own dad is in his nineties, so I can literally empathize with what Sam is going through with his father. As for Callen? I can understand his confusion.

Just when he thought he had filled in all the blanks surrounding his past--maternal grandson of an OSS agent, biological son of an East European mobster--it turns out that Hetty Lang might have been lying to him. Or, rather, only told him half the truth.

There is the increasingly stronger possibility that he was initially intended to be nothing more than a two-legged version of Sergeant Boomer. An occasional "track-and-attack" dog.

And, if I were Callen, I'd be thinking: "That really sucks."

Dogs make a good episode but amp up the action drama
steveclem-4377817 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a good episode. Way better than last week. Dog episodes are always great on the NCIS franchise. The cool thing about this episode is that our friendly pooch is afforded a rank within the military giving him the perfection he so much deserves. Wouldn't it be great if all dogs were afforded this protection and a certain football player we all unfortunately know would still be in jail? You should have named said person as the villain this week and tased him in the face and juiced him a couple of good times. An opportunity missed. Well, overall I had a real rooting interest in this show this week which has been few and far between lately. The other thing that was cool to note was that Kensi without Deeks is way a better situation for her character. She has a more powerful presence without him. The thing I found odd about this episode was that Roundtree said he wanted to put the police thing behind him and let the lawyers /management handle the problem. Didn't he and Sam say they need to stop letting things slide and they needed to be more proactive in this fight last week? What happened? My guess is the network did that episode for clicks and wanted to get back to the status quo as quickly as possible. NCIS really doesn't deal with civilian problems even though they stretch when they can to be more socially attached. I like it better when there is more action drama than social extended drama. It feels really forced when they do that kind of thing. The baby adoption thing for instance. How many episodes do you need to get this thing settled? Wow, it's past its expedition date let's move on already. That kid should be old enough to be part of NCIS by now considering the time you have put into it. Square peg round hole people.

Meh......
Toonfan8419 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The omission of Deeks in this episode shows how vital the character is to the show. As this particular episode is all about a dog, it would have been perfect for Deeks involvement, why the writers felt he needed to go missing and not explain it is baffling.

The overall episode never really got going, it jumped from mediocre subplot to mediocre subplot... the Callen deepfake thing should be the main plot for an entire season, it's got legs but we seem to have to keep being reminded of social issues like "racist LAPD" or "Deeks Blye Baby" and now we have "Sams Dads Alzheimers". We don't need all these subplots, just get the Callen story going.

Not the best episode...

Going Downhill
ActionLover765424 April 2022
Man this show is going downhill. It's just not interesting anymore. So much preaching this season and the cases are like law and order SVU this season. This episode is about a drug sniffing dog and a handler that can't figure out why anyone would want to take a dog thats just doing his job and refers to her former spouse dumb or something really? So she is so smart that out of all of the cases she helped solve, probably put people in jail and maybe gotten killed in military ops, but instead she points the police in the direction of her ex boyfriend who doesn't like that dog and the dog doesn't like him. WTF? The rest of this show outside of the cases is just too much personal stuff including this episode. I'm watching these episodes in FF now. Too much drama. Too slow. Too goofy. Too preachy. We are trying to find a dog with a bounty on his head and the dude comes out of the house half hazardly eating cookies and cracking jokes. Hey buddy, you want to have a sense of urgency in reviewing that data you have in your pocket. Smh. What is this. Too dumb.

Keeps getting worse
bassman-4494430 July 2022
I think it's a bad sign when some of your actors can't hide their embarrassment over the idiotic lines they are forced to deliver, especially Fatima and Kilbride. They used to be great but now are saying stupider and stupider things in every episode and they know it. The pay must be pretty good.

My 1 rating applies not just to this episode but to pretty much the whole of season 13. 2 or 3 episodes I had to shut off part way through because they were so horrible.

I used to love this show but it's gone completely down the toilet. Time to end it, I think.
