Its Raining Women...
A_Different_Drummer17 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
OK, so that was not the original title of the hit song, but it could have been the original title of this episode.

Which itself was a wry comment on the fact that the producers filled almost every possible female role here with actresses of considerable good looks.

But we digress....

In spite of the above-mentioned surfeit of nice looking ladies, the real chemistry in this show is Macht and Adams.

And I am not referring to Jerry Seinfeld "not that there is anything wrong with that" sense, rather to the fact that these two absolutely take command of every scene they are in, and that is rare.

That chemistry is rare. It is so rare that, to make the point, if you look at the international smash show "HOUSE" you will see that the producers had to keep changing the co-stars in their constant search for the right chemistry.

But these guys have it.

Also rare (and I did say this before but it bears repeating) is how this series does something never seen before in the history of TV - makes the law (one of the dullest professions in the world) hip, funny, fun, and interesting.

Now we can see why this became a hit .

Mike won the Mock Trial
longhorn_bear26 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure why everyone was congratulating the plaintiff's lawyer in the Mock Trial. The court ruled in favor of the defendant. Yes, Mike didn't keep grilling Rachel because he didn't want to hurt her feelings (related to her not wanting to take LSAT again). But at the end, Pearson said the defendant won the case.

Good episode and great acting. Its obvious that MIke and Rachel are going to end up together. Their chemistry is better than Jenny and Mike. Plus Mike saved her a$$ several times. Why do I have to write so many words when I just have a brief opinion of the episode. Okay, that will do it.

Mock Trial
Hitchcoc16 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Things get interesting when a mock trial is set up. Michael and his rival end up on opposite sides. Michael wants nothing to do with it but is stuck. He has to interrogate Rachel with whom he has just had a serious confrontation. He tries to be a gentleman and things backfire on him. He is made to look stupid. In the court case we have men who are dealing with huge amounts of money in international hotels. One wants a merger, but no one can be up front and it gets pretty dicey. Harvey seems to have an answer. There is more sex in this one than before and it is a little distracting. Harvey, especially, is the beneficiary although he is being conned.

Star Trek is mentioned and honored in this episode... =D
Davidd4186 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode with a fitting title "Play the Man" gets a 10 because Star Trek was mentioned right after the beginning credits. I found it interesting how well the Trekie connection went along with the rest of the story for both Mike and Harvey and them trying to do the right thing in the respective situations. Kobayashi Maru and the Captain Kirk mentions really fit with the episode.

Leadership, integrity, and facing challenges with courage are themes that come up a lot in Star Trek a lot and certainly did in this episode too. I really enjoyed seeing Harvey's smirk just after Mike leaves... it was right after he mentioned captain Kirk and Mike says Aye Aye captain. That was one of the best parts of the episode for me.

Later on I like how Harvey managed to make his situation a win win for everyone and how Mike gave up a silly mock trial in order to keep his friendship in order. Also great line at the end of Rachel saying Mike was a smart guy and that he could figure out why she expects more of him than the others.

Mike's weakness
dierregi27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Mike is dragged into a mock trial against his love interest Rachel. We're supposed to buy the fact that he is a "nice guy" (alternatively described as naive and soft) and that's why he "spared' Rachel during the trial.

Actually, he was nice to Rachel because she is Rachel and he wants to score. Had anybody else taken the stand, I doubt the results would have been the same.

Also, one clearly see why everybody hates lawyers, with all their ego trips, back stabbing and unethical behaviour,

Elsewhere, Harvey meets an old flame as a business rival. These "hot shot" women all look alike: stick thin, straight long hair, mid- to late thirties. They also seem to have the same taste in clothes: super-tight fitting everything, from silk blouses to skin tight dresses, pencil skirts and Loubotin heels. Anybody in need of a real personality?

Weak writing
srinivasaperumal817 May 2022
Mike ross was in a place where he has to prove his worth with every opportunity he gets. But what he does he gets emotional over all the women he sees. In this episode in make believe trial his crush got emotional over mock argument which she links over to some lsat exams. I dont understand the point she was mean to him whole episode because of that. Just weak writing to show him as a good guy. On the other hand Harvey hits it out of the park with his part.

Stupid
kgpeterson8318 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Stupid episode. Mike throwing the mock trial because he doesn't want to be mean? Give me a break. He has to prove himself to the firm and being nice isn't going to win him any points with said firm. He loses his boss money and he lets his prick opponent get an even bigger head because Mike was a baby. He didn't even protect his friend/witness from the opposing consul. Mike looked so weak here and then to go out and celebrate is ridiculous. He needs to step up and not be so pathetic going forward. He said he wanted to a chance but is pissing away every single opportunity. How can he be so naive?
