American Idol is one of the original US singing competitions and it has lasted so long for good reason. While they do not have too many vocal superstars they know how to put on a good presentation and we saw that here tonight.
They had the right balance of stories and performances here. And when the stories feel like a bit too much then you can just fast-forward that part.
I don't know if American Idol or The Voice is going to launch another star any time soon, but I think that is more about the music climate than the talent. Regardless, a fun start to the new season and hopefully it can keep things up.
