The story is not only captivating and poignant, but also deeply moving and relatable. What sets this film apart is Rima Das's masterful use of visual language to narrate the story. Every shot and dialogue is carefully crafted, leaving no room for unnecessary elements. The cinematography, while simple, is highly effective in immersing the viewer into the story, making it feel like a first-hand experience rather than a mere observation.

I strongly urge everyone to lend their wholehearted support to this particular genre of film, as it holds the key to unlocking a magnificent future for Assamese cinema.

Great Storyline

"Tora's Husband" is a heartwarming film that invites you into the beautiful world of Tora and her family. As you watch the movie, you quickly become connected to their experiences, understanding the challenges of a dedicated father providing for his loved ones and a compassionate businessman mindful of his employees. Meanwhile, Tora's unwavering efforts to keep her family united bring depth to the story. It's fascinating to witness how the unexpected lockdown, forcing people to maintain distance, creates hurdles for Jaan and Tora, hindering their aspirations and even straining their relationship.

Excellent narration by Rima Das. Loved it.

Tora's husband film is like a flowing river.

Tora's Husband, a film which welcomes you into the world of Tora, a few minutes into the film you become part of their family, you understand the feeling of a father who has been trying hard to provide for his family and a businessman who cares for his employees. On other hand, Tora tirelessly tries to keep the family together. It's interesting to see how the the unexpected lockdown, where people had to keep a distance from each other distances Jaan and Tora from their goals and from each other.

Tora's husband film is like a flowing river, every wave brings you drama, togetherness, love and happiness.

"Tora's Husband" is a thought-provoking film about the consequences of a global tragedy on the main character, Jaan, and the town of Chhaygaon, Assam. It accurately depicts the difficulties the group faces as they attempt to reconstruct their lives. The film emphasises the psychological toll that COVID-19 have on people and society, capturing the public's dread and concern around these issues. Rima Das blends numerous subplots together to create a holistic portrayal of the disaster's aftermath. Tora's Husband is a realistic portrayal of a family trying to make things work. Guys must watch the movie, you are not going to disappoint.

Beautiful movie by Rima Das

Proud to be a part of screening the Assamese movie "Tora's husband" in the San Francisco bay area. It is beautifully directed by oscar nominated film director Rima Das. Throughout the film you can see the uniqueness and the beauty of her direction. She was able to put together so many messages in a very natural and subtle way using common scenes from rural and urban Assam.

You can feel the mental struggle of Jan, a middle aged father of two, who in spite of being a compassionate man and trying to help everyone around him has to live with the fact that his wife thinks "he is a good man but a bad husband". I like how Rima Das was portraying that the husband has to live in separate worlds and the difficulty faced by him in balancing his attention among all these worlds - The world of the community, the world with his kids, the world with his workers, The world with his friends, the world with his mother and sister and the world with his wife . And his addiction to alcoholism, which by the way is a real problem not only in Assam but in entire India, is not helping him either. I like the part where he being a champion athlete and a mentally strong person helping everyone in need was telling his mother, his sister and wife that he too needs help and support from the women in his life .

Great job Rima Das.

A movie worth watching

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the movie 'Tora's husband'. It's an Assamese movie written, directed, edited and produced by Assamese woman movie maker Rima Das. It is based on usual social scenario and hardships faced by small business-owners in Assam during covid pandemic time. The main character, Abhijit Das as 'Jaan' has been portrayed as a well-balanced responsible kind-hearted person with high morale. By bringing such a strong realistic character, by itself, Rima Das accomplished the social responsibility of being a film-maker: a role-model to be followed by an unorganized society, emphasized on keeping good behavior, refraining away from harsh words in any situation, being positive, honest and kind. Yet such a strong person can often be challenged by insecurities faced in personal and financial situations of running a business, especially in the hardship brought by covid pandemic. His wife, Tora has been shown as a simple and dedicated wife yet going through mental turmoil that is quite common for a simple traditional wife. My favorite dialogue in the movie is one by Jaan-"there is no one world, each of us has different own worlds". Realizing that his wife, Tora, who has all the good intentions for him, too may have a different perspective at looking at the things, is a strong self-reflection that made him to change himself to avoid conflict. Despite having all the excellent qualities of a good human being, Jaan is shown to be a heavy alcoholic accentuated covid pandemic stress and that created great discontent to his wife. In general, it is a positive movie ending with the message-Men are probably more vulnerable to stress and depression due to the demands in carrying out financial responsibilities, gender roles, social expectations etc, and most importantly, in keeping both mom and wife happy. Acknowledging love and affection for wife openly may not be habitual for a typical Indian husband, but doing so easily solves the problem to bring back happiness in family with a pleased wife😊 Rima Das craftily brought in that important message at the end! A big applauded to the talented Assamese woman film producer again and good wishes to her to accomplish even bigger in the future.

A must-watch compelling narrative that transcends any language barrier
sudeshnachakraborty-7723630 October 2023
This film Tora's Husband is a compelling narrative that transcends any language barrier. The film is in the Assamese language, and is available with subtitles. This marvel created by Rima Das is an excellent work of cinema! The film accurately depicts a tiny family's real-life experiences during the pandemic crisis. Jaan, the main character, is a sensitive and expressive individual. He is concerned about his mother, wife, children, employees, beloved dog, and needy. The director shows all of the hardships and problems encountered throughout the pandemic in a thoughtful manner. The entrepreneur devastated by the lockdown is a character whom Abhijit Das brilliantly brings to life and it takes a strong shock to snap back to reality.

Bravo for the success shared by the whole crew!
