Life According to Penny is beautifully shot and portrayed with a fresh look at a disturbing topic. It is hopeful and leaves me wanting to see more. The first thing that caught my eye was the setting and how it had the look and feel of a past time and place, yet felt fresh and compelling to watch. The topic though painful to see was handled very carefully. It seemed to me that the director and writer painstakingly picked every moment, prop, shot and sound effect to tell all the little stories within the bigger tale. There was a moment in the middle where the action was a little muddy, but that was quickly remedied and did not take away from the impact of the story overall. This is a very short film and I would love to see it made into a full length feature. I find this kind of intimate and well thought out movie making more and more rare, which is probably why it feels more like a classic than some flash in the pan attempt at stunning the masses.
