Must-See Movie About History and Future of America
jquac80925 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Dr. MLK Jr's references a Negro spiritual in his "I Have a Dream Speech" - "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last." Runaway Slave asks: Are we really free?

The film carries you through interview after interview around the country, garnering viewpoints from leading minds and influential people. It isn't about Democrats or Republicans; it's about independent thought instead of being enslaved to government or party politics. "It's OK to leave the plantation," as the movie assures viewers.

I've been following this movie for quite some time now. Finally releasing in theaters, it does not fail to deliver technically. I could listen to the soundtrack over and over - and the editing style is beautifully modern and active; something uncommon for documentaries.

Leaving the theater, I felt proud to be an American. Proud of where my country is after the turmoil of slavery and civil rights. I can't help but urge people to see it for themselves, and to think for themselves instead of going with what a party or organization tells you.

Those who have rated this film one star have either not watched it or are incapable of giving it an honest review. Even the music and editing style earns it more than one star.

Excellent and Informative...
sygma76926 January 2013
If you refer to the postings below mine, you will see 2 reviews that are accurate and 2 reviews from people who either A. Don't know the Truth, Or B. Don't want you to know the truth... I'm more inclined to choose C. All of the above. Great film, Informative, Accurate, and gives you references for the statements and the truth... I don't really want to include ant spoilers, but you should learn the truth about what happened in our history... More recent history really.

I don't know how many of you were misinformed due to a public school or your phony beliefs, but when you look up the moments and events in this movie, you should be surprised that you have never "learned" this in school... If you can't put in a little effort yourself, you do not deserve to know.

Important Movie!
Lynnsmobile15 March 2013
One of the most important movies of the last 50 years. Thank You Rev C.L.Bryant and all involved - for this amazing documentary. Your bravery and leadership is so needed and so very important. I had tears in my eyes through the whole thing. The truth is powerful. I am so inspired by the leaders who appear in this documentary. Praise the Lord for those who find a way to break away from whatever darkness pervades the conditions of their birth and seek the light. Peer pressure is such a powerful thing, it takes a special mind to see beyond it. Those who condemn this movie are trapped in a spiral and don't realize they are being pulled down. Freedom is not just something we enjoy by the grace and wisdom of our Founding Fathers, it is a state of mind. Thank You again! I am blown away.

Excellent movie
goldbond-404-94139919 October 2012
Very informative if the people who need to see this would open their minds and eyes. The black community in general is being snowed by the liberals and they need to wake up.

The democrat party in this country is who has destroyed the black home and it's time they realized it. They are being used by the left to further a horrible political agenda. This movie brings out the facts of this in an undeniable manner without being confrontational.

The only criticism I have of the movie is the frequent use of rapid picture changing - I'm sure there's a name for it but I don't know what it is. It's almost frenetic and I wish they wouldn't have done it.

All in all it is well worth two hours of your time.

View the the other documentary first
Pezzhead23224 March 2013
When I first started watching this movie, I was incredibly excited about half way through, I started thinking this movie is one of those "it should be mandatory for every American to watch", kind of like Bottled Up. Then for some reason, I started a downward slide. At the end, I realized why. This film is almost completely funded by Freedom Works. Freedom Works is an organization created by and funded by the Koch brothers. All Freedom Works events have the Koch family as the master puppeteers. I leave it to you to make your own decisions, but prior to watching this, one should really watch "Koch Brothers Exposed" documentary to understand the message trying to be pushed by this movie.

Definitely worth watching
bayou_ratt_28311 August 2013
First off, it's obvious that Liane Blanco hasn't watched this. It's ironic that they use the word "VOMIT" in the review when all they did was regurgitate the information listed about the movie. Second, It's fairly clear that zxzx4 hasn't watched this either and it's almost comical that they say it's "insulting to minorities" when the vast majority of the opinions and facts are offered by blacks. Are you saying that they are insulting themselves? Regardless, based on your review, you didn't watch this. As far as PezzHead232's review, do you not see the lack of logic to complain about who funded this yet you don't seem to care about who funded the anti Koch Bros propaganda you're talking about? Talk about a lack of intellectual honesty.

This film is about the destruction of the black family in America since the 1960's that has been perpetrated by the progressives in a small part by the republican party but mainly in the democrat party. It is very informative and taps some of the greatest conservative black minds this country has to offer. If anyone has a clue as to what is going on in black America, it's CL Bryant. This film discusses what is wrong in the black community and how it can be changed and is definitely worth watching. I rated this a 9 out of 10 because I feel it could have done without some of the filler cinematography and still made it's point.

Not really a movie in the conventional sense...
zxzx46 January 2013
If you know nothing about this movie but get it because the cover suggests some inspiring film about a slave making an escape from true, historical slavery, look more closely. The "cast" includes these notable Hollywood stars: Andrew Breitbart, Allen West, Glenn Beck, and Herman Cain, as well as a number of Tea Party luminaries. This film has been struggling to find an audience, even with massive giveaways of free tickets. It is slickly produced, but also insulting in its arguments, insulting to minorities, and transparently biased against almost all social welfare in this country. However, if you are interested in watching almost two hours of a right wing polemic which is little more than a vastly extended version of a campaign ad, this is the movie for you.

Quite Informative
cheezethepunk7 March 2014
Funny that the bad reviews on here are all similar. Goes to show just how powerful these names have become and who really wants to keep the public in the dark about such figures. The key is to have low information voters to stagger the polls and keep people from knowing truth. This movie is an epic documentary on what has happened and where this country is going as long as people are protected from truth. It comes as no surprise to those of us that are informed and will greatly awaken those who are not. Hollywood is dying a slow death and independent films are taking root. Rent it, buy it, and I guarantee if you like to think you will NOT be disappointed. Forget the naysayers, for they would like to to stay in 1950's social America. Be a free person with a free mind that accepts facts, not fiction.

Absolutely pathetic
lianeblanco6 January 2013
Edited - FYI, I did watch this movie and I repeat: IT STINKS! If it's so great, why didn't it make money? Even the worse films make more than $48,000. This is worse than worse, it's mind-numbingly stupid. You know, kind of like the Tea Party.

If the two reviews above mine are written by real people, they are being paid by the production company to give this turkey a good review.

Starring Glenn Beck, Andrew Breitbart, Allen West, Herman Cain, and Rev. C.L. Bryant - you've got to be kidding me! Since its release in January 2012, it has grossed a whopping $48,000! And Freedomworks has $500K a month, for six months, set aside to promote it! $3 million to promote a film that in one year has made less than $50,000? What do you think is going on here? Runaway Slave indeed. Runaway VOMIT is more like it.

This is not a documentary. It's a propaganda piece, and not worth anyone's time, not even moronic Glenn Beck fans.

Reminds us to be informed instead of taken for granted.
MSB83858725 July 2013
First of all, Glenn Beck plays a minor role in this movie. He is shown in a few video clips, but so are many leaders of different races and opinions. I don't understand why some people think he plays a bigger part. This movie tells the story of C.L. Bryant and follows him as he searches through history and talks with people from all walks of life to discover why people seem to be sold out to a political party that may not even represent their point of view. I saw this movie in the theater and bought it to watch again at home with my children. I do not see it as promoting a political agenda. I believe the message is to refuse to let your vote be taken for granted. Instead of casting a ballot for a candidate simply because they are on a political ticket that your Mama always voted for, take time to learn about the issues and see who will best represent you in office. This is a good lesson for us all.

Good for thinkers - Bad for Kool-Aid drinkers

If you're a Communist or Neo-Nazi this film is not for you.

If you're an American wondering why generational poverty is so pervasive in the American black community this film will shed some light on how we got here. It explores why so many American blacks continue to feel they are victims and why they remain unable to break out of the poverty brought upon them by the government programs designed to help them, and why there's nearly unanimous support of the Progressive people and programs which seem intended on destroying them.

If you're looking to inform yourself or others about who really supported civil rights from the Civil War to the 1960s, there are also some good Historical notes and perspectives provided throughout.

It was also nice to see proud, hopeful Americans willing to look beyond the troubles of the past towards a better tomorrow.

It's bit slow in places and a bit flashy with unnecessary editing, but valuable for the facts offered and for the perspectives given, even if you don't agree with C.L. Bryant or others appearing.

One of the most important Documentaries to make you think...
leeuniverse26 August 2016
I was really excited for this film, but having finally watched it, it was even better than I expected. This film does well in contrasting liberal (aka progressive/Democrat) history and today with conservatives, showing how we have commonality's together, but one side is not for our good, but especially for the good of the black community.

Slavery still exists in America.... Democrats are now doing it through government and the demonization of others, rather than being direct about it, but they are still the same racists and slavers as before.

Just look at some of the negative reviews, instead of debunking anything in the video, because they can't, because everything in it is true, they try to stop you from watching it by who did the video. First, that shows how they clearly haven't watched the movie, but second it shows that it's all liberals have, personal attacks, no substance, no facts, no truth, and no morality.

This video, along with the new one "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party" should be a must see in every school, and by every American. Good people need to see how they have been lied to, how they are being controlled, how they are being enslaved.

New House Slaves
buenoeverywhere18 March 2014
Funded by Karl Rove's (Byrant's civil right hero) Freedom Works this movie proves that some AfroAmericans can be as political deluded as anyone else. This movie contains all the hyperbole, meme and stereotyping and distortions that Tea Partyers love and progressives shrug their shoulders at. To hear AfroAmericans defend and glorify slavery and accuse the civil rights movement as a slavery creator was distressing. Abortion, civil rights, democrats and welfare are the new slave masters according to the movie. This is the movie Neocon/Tea'ers love and will love because it has all the hyperbole and hand washing they desire: See I told ya it wasn't discriminatory practices, poor education and poverty holding down the negros p, it's themselves.
