Dirk is flattered when he is hired as a security consultant by Professor Jericho, the one man who believed in him when he first espoused his views on the holistic nature of everything when he was a student at Cambridge. He learns that his old mentor is forking in the field of robotics and has created a robot that he named after his daughter who died in an accident aged eight and another member of his team has created what she believes is true artificial intelligence. Dirk hasn't been there long though when the robot disappears and the AI program vanishes from the system. If that wasn't bad enough Jericho is soon found murdered and the chief suspects are Dirk and MacDuff! While fleeing from the police Dirk meets a rather strange girl; she is clearly very intelligent but somehow not quite right; could she have anything to do with the case? And if so what?
This was rather fun episode with a science fiction twist. Once again there are plenty of laughs and a delightfully bonkers story. Dirk Gently is the polar opposite of Sherlock Holmes, the other idiosyncratic detective, appearing on the BBC recently; he doesn't keep his emotions in check, he doesn't follow the clues in the traditional sense and few people believe he is a 'great detective which ironically is why I think fans of Holmes will like this.
