I don't know why people are giving this series crap ratings. It is one of those really good reality shows about an occupation that doesn't use drummed up drama as the main substance of the show.

What you get is just the right amount emotions, opinions, drama, methodology and reveal in a good 20 odd minutes. The carvers are entertaining by themselves plus the editing is tight that keeps the flow going without bogging down with melodrama that you see in a lot of other reality shows.

And if that is not really your thing then just watch it for the carvings, that in itself is well worth the time.

Firstly, the creations that these guys come up with are amazing and the location offers spectacular scenery. But to call the show "unscripted" is like calling WWF unscripted. Their creations are dramatic enough but like too many construction reality shows, they focus too much on added drama and not enough on the final creations.

The owner is cast as a grouchy old curmudgeon and drama queen, who never draws out the plans for high priced creations, then complains that the carvers didn't meet up to the design he had in his head. The foreman is anything but a foreman and the intern is a regular screw up each episode and might as well change his name to Gilligan. On top of this, every episode has them having to complete these works of art in ridiculously short time spans, as if someone spending that kind of money would make such snap decisions requiring things done in only a few days. Doesn't sound unscripted to me at all.

However, we watched each episode just to see the spectacular carvings they did do.
