This was not as bad as some of the other recent episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles, but no one will call this the quintessential episode of what a procedural should be either. The end game of Sam running the NCIS team is certainly a choice, but in a way it could be the best option because he brings the toughness that those before him did.
Not seeing Callen in every episode just feels odd though. I don't know if this is a budgetary reason behind the scenes, but it feels like a mistake and is increasingly noticeable as we only have a few episodes left in the show's long fourteen seasons across the airwaves.
