The BEST TV show EVER made
mfrussell-085159 April 2024
With the wonderful authenticity to the era they bring comedy mixed with history and true life events while you're trying to figure out the mystery behind the next murder. The authentic settings throughout Canada add to its genuine deliverance of every episode. Jonny (George) bring a smile every time I watch. William and Julia's love and life together has been beautiful to watch. And even now as they have grown older, it brings the pureness of a relationship to the screen. Tom and Margaret have brought the hardships of family and holding on with everything you have to make it happen. A character of humanity that is so lacking today. Their love is endless. Over the years, I have fallen in love with every cast member as well as the stories. The writers have brought so much heart and soul: deliver time and time again. The BEST SHOW on Tele-vision as Tesla so eloquently says! "Simply MARVELOUS Darling, Simply Marvelous!!"

Badly written AND repetitive subject matter/plots
HeatherFedora24 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I also agree with the other reviewers that the episode was badly written. But most importantly, plots are becoming repetitive. Julia has been framed for murder and thrown in jail before. The erotic art plot wasn't new either. Most of this season has consisted of recycled story lines. Have the writers run out of ideas? They should research Canadian and Toronto/Ontarian history of that time and look for stories. There should be plenty to choose from.

And what happened to tying up loose ends? Like the psycho who kidnapped Crabtree? I guess there is to be yet another cliff hanger at the end of the season. Not fair to viewers! This has been overdone as well.

I'm sorry to say that after having been a fan of this show for all these seasons, I think it has run out of steam.

Badly written
dnddetective23 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the other review this episode was badly written.

Like a judge who refuses to accept there was missing evidence not supplied to the defense that is very obviously relevant, even when the detective/writer of that evidence is there to argue its inclusion, because the writers wanted that outcome regardless of whether or not it makes sense.

Or an experienced detective who doesn't check the phone records or ask at the inn to see if someone called from that room.

The episode has more holes than Swiss cheese.

The B story of the episode also adds nothing. They would have been better off focusing on one story.

Badly written episode!
dawntreader-3023321 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was so full of holes that you could strain spaghetti with it. A trained doctor not checking the bottle for the strength of a medicine, a Police Detective not checking who was at the crime scene or taking fingerprints, a Lawyer with years of court experience not interviewing everyone having to do with information from the crime scene and have unproved accusations dismissed and to double check evidence for missing information before it is given to the court. REALLY! Bad Writing! I feel for the actors that had to spend their valuable time learning and performing this script. Please writers you can do better in your sleep.

Worst defense ever
adamkraemerla1 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The case against Julia hinges on a) whether she's a crazed feminist zealot and b) a competent doctor and not a single character witness is called by her attorney? I admit I'm not overly familiar with the Canadian court system in 1910, but it seems to me that she was very poorly represented. Essentially, an issue of bad writing.

In addition, since when has anyone telling Murdoch not to investigate something worked? His wife is on trial for murder, the victim made a phone call, and the best he can do is speculate that it may have been important?

Overall, just a very frustrating episode, less because of the outcome and more because of the plot holes.
