A very strong conclusion.

Times are changing, Jimmy's health is starting to fail, he's ageing, and people aren't quite so afraid to stop his predatory actions.

A powerful final episode, after seeing his career rise, and his ability to avoid justice, it's good to see a resolution, just such a shame that he didn't pay for what he did.

It makes you wonder, in Savile's later years, was his lower visibility due to his health, or did the powers that be know only too well what he was, and try to keep him out of the way.

I remember that final episode of Top of the pops, it was such an uncomfortable watch, and as for Big Brother, I think people could genuinely see him for what he was at this point.

You have to give absolute credit to those that came forward, what an incredible and brave bunch of people.

Coogan once again gets it absolutely spot on, I can't believe how he's been aged throughout the series, his voice is incredibly accurate.

Years on, and it's still a sickening and shocking story, it's been a very well made series, it concludes very strongly.

9/10.

Painful but Neccesary

Warning: Spoilers
I binge watched The Reckoning last night. It makes for difficult viewing but absolutely needed to be made. It gave invaluable insight into the workings of a depraved predator and how he operated in plain site. He was an opportunist in the worst possibly sense. For his career, for himself and worst, for his base impulses.

It's raw and graphic but these stories needed telling. Yes, it was sickening and shocking, but imagine being one of his victims.

These horrors needed highlighting if only to illustrate how easily they were ignored and disregarded by the people around who couldn't see, or didn't want to see. The worst kind of sexual crimes casually written of as "just Jimmy being Jimmy."

At one point Savile described himself as a Pied Piper. Artistic license or not, he absolutely was, but not to children who often saw right through him.

No, he attracted establishment rats who danced along to his depraved tune. The tory government at the time giving the keys, literally, to the biggest mental asylum in the UK to its biggest nutter.

Britain loves an eccentric, something Jimmy knew all to well. His whole persona carefully choreographed, from the shock of bleached hair to his outrageous outfits, jarring inflection, and, of course, his prop bling and token cigar.

Coogan nails this role and I'm not just speaking as the blatent fanboy I am. This isn't a caricature, this IS Jimmy, and that performance must have taken its toll. Talk about suffering for your art.

The writing interspersed with real victim testimonials was inspired. The set design, lighting, make-up, music and mood, all faultless.

A strong cast made it utterly believable with stand out performances too numerous to mention. Although I was blown away by the actress playing Thatcher.

Coogan has cemented himself as a natonal treasure and this is compulsory viewing.

Episode 4

There was no reckoning, despite the title of the show. Savile got away with it during his lifestyle.

Despite what might be intimated here. There was no guilt in him, even in his final years. Look at that nauseating tombstone that was placed on his grave. Later taken down and destroyed.

Even after his death, there were victims who wanted to tell their stories. The tabloid press who now claim, they always suspected something off about Savile. Slapped down these complainers, labelling them as vultures.

The BBC spiked their own Newsnight investigation. Preferring to run their own tribute shows during the festive season.

It was about a year after Savile's death the dam burst. The saint was a sinner.

This series could never capture the truth. It had to fictionalise parts of it. Then leave some to conjecture.

I think the various hospitals were the biggest problem. Letting him hang around when many of the staff knew Savile was trouble.
