Sex & Nudity

  • It is implied that one of the main characters has multiple sex partners over the course of the story, although nothing is shown.
  • A woman and man have sex, although it is shown through close-ups of their faces. Afterwards, the man is shown naked from the side, sitting on the edge of a bed during a short conversation. Then the man and woman lie naked in bed together, we briefly see a split-second glimpse of the woman's breast as she moves her arm, and then only see bare back and shoulders.
  • Two young women are shown wearing white robes while they shower and we see a medium close-up outline of one of the woman's breasts underneath her robe.

Profanity

  • 1 "shit", a few "hell". "Jesus" is used as an exclamation.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • This movie is set in Poland in 1961, everyone but the nun smokes like a chimney.
  • There are scenes in bars where people are drinking. One of the main character drinks heavily, and is shown drunk on a few occasions. The other main character is shown taking three large gulps of vodka directly from a bottle.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Overall it's a fairly simplistic story and is not overwhelming, stressful, or tense in any means
  • The theme of the movie concerns Jews who were killed during World War II. It's not frightening, but it is dark.

  • A grave is exhumed and the skull of a little boy is clearly shown. The remains of two other people are also exhumed, but they are wrapped in a blanket, and not shown.
