I just watched the first episode and checked IMDB to see if my impressions of this show were shared by others... only to find that there weren't any reviews added yet. OK. I'll go first.
The GOOD: I know people that have log homes or cabins, and now I have a higher level of appreciation for the work that goes into it. These guys are good at what they do, but...
The BAD: In episode 1, they build a trapper cabin in a somewhat remote area, and while the log construction is well done, they go and put a WHITE residential front door on it. What?? Instead of an outhouse (that they didn't even mention during the "reveal" sequence), they should have built and installed a hand-made front door made of wood.
Hopefully, in future episodes they will enlist the talents of a designer to make stylistic decisions.
Having said that, this is the first episode, and my gut tells me that these guys have probably built many projects up to this point... to the specifications of their customers that have already made the decisions on all details of the design. For dramatic effect on the show, they had to hide some of the building details from the owner to create drama during the reveal.
