Felt like it was a pretty decent movie that I fell asleep in the middle
mi_minx26 October 2023
A lot of interesting, good characters that didn't quite fully develop and a promising creepy story line that could've easily been a ninety minute movie winded up being an uneven, choppy fifty two minute one shot, dysfunctional episode. The watcher can waste far to much time on speculation as to why what was watched that any potential enjoyment of the story is lost on a mental tug of war after to over "huh" instead of savoring something that could've been great just leaves you frustrated. Basically a visual equivalent of a dissatisfying one night stand that left your place before the awkward morning breath reintroduction.

This is where the talent is!

My poor American Horror was such a let down thank god for THIS series. As usual brilliant. Great writing, great cast, great story, great acting! THANK YOU! I love the use of story telling, I love the way everything is beautifully twisted and unpredictable. This episode sucked me in and made me love the roller coaster ride that this series is USUALLY known to deliver. The visuals outstanding. I think this is where all the talent has gone, specifically to this story while abandoning it's mother ship! Thank god for small favors. My birthday was ruined until I saw this! Thank you so much! Yes I am a fan!

Tired story of bullying and the dangers of cyberspace
jmbovan-47-16017327 October 2023
Tired story of bullying and the dangers of cyberspace. Strange and lonely girl who lost her mother to cancer is bullying by the "cool kids" and feels shunned and alone. Introduce a disfigured online friend who is obsessive and manipulative. This friendship escalates to dangerous behaviors and stunts. The shy girl suddenly becomes confident and blah blah blah.

As the story continues, nothing really happens but the shy girl finds herself, and she is continued to be stalked by the disfigured online girl.

The resolution is a downer. It culminates with the negative outcomes of obsessive thinking and behavior. Of the lonely and disenfranchised teens that just desperately want to belong somewhere.

Acting and production os high quality. The storyline just wasn't that incentive or original, regurgitating tropes and PSA warnings.

These AHStories just don't quite have enough to them to really justify this show.

First episode that feels like it fully works
harry-3451826 October 2023
American horror stories bestie is one hell of an opening episode it's well acted, well directed and decently written. The episode is 52 minutes and uses the most of it that it can yes there is some minor pacing issues and and annoying writing tricks it flows a lot better than any episode of ahstories since its beginning. The acting here is outstanding the lead character Shelly is extremely likeable and tragic watching her over this episode was painful and come the end of the episode I was invested in her story. This episode is the only episode except necro that has a character in that I actually cared about and was invested in. This episode also had some amazing visuals with some very pretty shots and good sounds design.

Tired storyline with lame ending
oliviajd-9735229 October 2023
The whole internet being dangerous, high school bullies, poorly behaved kid post parental death is so overused. I can tell that AHS is running out of creative stories to tell. A girl that looks like young Chloe Sevigny is angsty because her mom passed away from cancer and her single dad decided to move them for a fresh start. The kids at her new school call her a grandma and a lesbian and so she's mad. She gets online and befriends a girl who says she was disfigured because her mom did drugs while she was in the womb (seemed like a lie). The creepy internet friend makes her do things & unsurprisingly they escalate to something detrimental. Predictable, boring, annoying.

Episode 301

Warning: Spoilers
It is good to have this show back as I will watch pretty much any anthology series out there.

It started with a very familiar premise of a young teen struggling with her dad and a new school. It then reverted to a modern take with her finding friendship online.

In the end things got dangerous and I guess there was an okay "twist" although we had to imagine that "Bestie" would come back into play at some point.

A decent episode but I feel like we have gotten stronger ones in the past. Time will tell if the third season can deliver, but not a bad start at all by any kind of measurement in my mind.

Loved the twists and turns
herrerad-4188028 October 2023
This episode has you thinking it goes one way and then it completely spins in the opposite direction. It definitely had some very shocking scenes; I did not understand the costume part, and when I did, I was completely shocked. I'm glad that they showed so much character development. It did start a little slow, but it does pick up. We need to remember that there needs to be a little backstory sometimes in order to get the bigget picture. This story was complicated due to all the different turns. I really appreciated them showing the very brief, but very important, scene of the teacher yelling at the doctor's. It makes a later scene more tragic.

Well done.

im tired.

Warning: Spoilers
This plot could've been used way better, way better from thic cliché storyline: bullied girl, sad dad, all-of-a-sudden boyfriend, easily predictable plot twists.. I can't understand why they made this series this way, i know the run time is less than an hour, but i'd love to see horror and emotion more than whatever this is. Everything happens all of a sudden, and in the end , you don't even feel anything because you haven't sympathized with any of the characters during the episode. That's what made the first seasons of the main series *american horror story* better: there were a lot of scenes where characters broke down and showed their true feelings with simple themes.

One of the only thing i liked was how they portrayed the newer generation, even tho it wasn't entirely accurate. So this is just a portrayal of lazy writing.

Tone-deaf Stereotype of Disabled/Disfigured People
jezabellabowie-5105429 October 2023
I agree with the other review about using the disabled/disfigured persons stereotype. In the world we live in now, we have supermodels and actors that are disabled and "disfigured"... so I don't know why this episode decides to use the old "different = bad" trope that even disney has grown out of.

On top of all that, the story was boring & unimaginative. Adding a computer or phone-centric story always feels a little cheap. Felt like the writer was trying way too hard to be relevant, but completely missing the mark with dated ideologies and stereotypes.

Disappointing and a waste of time. You are better off just re-watching the regular series.

Messy, Tensionless Garbage
deliriumbubbles-8931927 October 2023
Slow, boring, contrived nonsensical. They had enough plot for maybe half an hour, but tried to stretch it out with this long game from the Bestie character. Who, by the way is a hideous trope of the villian's evil being shown through their deformity. The main actress did well enough, but there were a lot of routes to take with the concept and boy that... existed. AHS really wants you to know disabled people are out to get you. Because they're jealous!

But I can't say much other than having zero expectations going in, they still disappointed me. Bad dialogue, characteristic swipes at lesbians, incomprehensible human behavior, shots that lingered for not reason... yep. That's a Ryan Murphy production.
