This is two intertwined films for the price of one! First, despite being produced on a miniscule budget, Marqueetown is an accurately researched, detailed history of two downtown movie theatres in Marquette, MI, and one man's passionate desire to save at least one of them and restore the joys he experienced as a youth.
PLUS, at the same time, the film is a humorous, insightful, sometimes biting pastiche of faux newsreels, ads, zanily re-created meetings, etc.
I have learned a little or a lot from every one of the hundreds of documentary films I have seen over more than a few decades, but never, I am sure, have I enjoyed one as thoroughly as this one! Kudos!
