The Poem
Prismark106 July 2018
Sandi Toksvig makes a rare television acting appearance as Emmeline Pankhurst. A rather pompous, arrogant woman in a large hat and two courtiers. Helen admits to having gone to school with her and makes her dislike for Mrs Pankhurst known to the group.

The women of the The Banbury Intricate Craft Circle are excited about Mrs Pankhurst's visit and their potential affiliation with her emancipation group. However all attempts to please Mrs Pankhurst through poetry, music and trifle leaves her unimpressed.

It does not help that Mrs Pankhurst thought that the women were involved in the vandalism of the statue of Venus in the library.

There was enough potential in the first series of Up the Women for a second series but it really is not that funny and writing needs to be sharper.
