Dark Political Revenge Film
zac197014 January 2019
Intriguing political revenge film with quite a dark tone and non-linear story structure. The story is basically about a guy called 'Wayne' (we know very little about his background, i presumed this was to show this could be anyone.) whose brother dies in police custody and plans to assassinate the politician he believes was in some way involved. Sometimes arthouse films tend to be a bit self indulgent and plodding but this film didn't seem that way it moved along at a nice pace (some of the long takes reminded me of Tarkovsky) and the conflicting stories that play out are very interestingly constructed with a nice touch of ambiguity. It has the feel of a cult film. I enjoyed the memorable performances from the actors, Paul McDonahue (who also wrote and directed) as Wayne was quietly seething and gives a good internal performance, David Joseph was more external but equally good and Lisa Moorish (although we hear most of her performance) was inspired and not a role one might think of her in however, she seems very adept here and i would like to see her in more authoritative roles.
