Indelicate writing
IzzyMaeDoorite25 April 2024
The season has come to an end, and even additional several months of hiatus weren't enough to salvage its impotent, amateur script.

Delicate is an uncanny valley of itself: visually it's still American Horror Story, but there's something deeply off-putting about it. The episode is unusually short, involves a very few actors who are unable to tap into the show's former magic and glory. The plot is muddled with barely coherent dialogue and, eventually, murdered point blank by deus ex machina, one of the most humiliating and laziest plot devices ever conceived by the human mind.

What could be a great take on Rosemary's Baby turned into meandering mess with filler shots and filler characters with little to no attention to the bigger scene, all of which rendered Delicate a dull and worthless experience that lacks any wit to revitalize a tarnished brand of AHS.

Exposition kills Fear
ossie8525 April 2024
The finale of American Horror Story: Delicate left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. The episode was filled with excessive exposition that seemed to kill any fear or suspense that could have been built up. Instead of showing us the horrors and allowing us to experience the terror along with the characters, we were bombarded with long-winded explanations and unnecessary details.

The writers seemed to have forgotten the old adage "show, don't tell" as they spoon-fed us every little detail about the antagonists and their motivations. Instead of allowing the audience to piece things together themselves and come to their own conclusions, we were force-fed information that only served to deflate any tension that may have been building.

Additionally, the over-explanation of the plot left little room for any real scares or genuine moments of horror. The show relied too heavily on dialogue and exposition, rather than allowing the visuals and atmosphere to speak for themselves. As a result, the finale felt flat and lacked the impact that the early seasons of American Horror Story have delivered.

WHY!?
kiershoosmith26 April 2024
For a season that had such gripping moments, so many questions and such a stunning cast that surprised most... why does the AHS endings always feel rushed, why tell a 3 episode story in one episodr and do so so badly, double feature was an excellent example of rushed story endings that left such minimal impact.

Here we are again with so many character revelations with such little pay off. It's disappointing as the book is rather strong and holds some gripping suspense and then it comes to this series and we end cheapening the work of previous episodes. All the stakes that were built, the tension that's been rising, all crescendoing to nothing at all with a bizarre ending that didn't leave me asking questions or wandering what the future held, more a longing sense of disappointment that that was the choice made for the ending.

Disappointing but not a surprise from the AHS franchise anymore.

Weak. Super weak.

Warning: Spoilers
I miss the AHS seasons where all the sub plots tied in at the end and the "big reveal" was satisfying and not what you were expecting. This one's was just dumb. There was no element of shock or surprise or interesting nuances I would have to explain to my husband why it was cool and good writing. AND! They never answered my one burning question which is what is the deal w the mark on everyone's face?!?! Seemed to turn out to be just a bizarre friendship bracelet with no other real significance as to why they all have the mark. Did I miss something?! Super lame. Hope they do better next time. Thanks!

At least it's over
nothing_z-5019225 April 2024
A lackluster finale to the worst season of AHS. The cast deserved much better than this. If you expect a lot of answers or clarity you will be disappointed. However if you've made it to episode 9 you're likely a fan of disappointment. The most relatable line in the episode was easily "What did I do to deserve this?" A question I've asked myself multiple times this season but mainly in the last 4 episodes.

Ryan Murphy is definitely capable but this is clearly not his best work. I'm sure the strikes will be cited as a reason for this lackluster season but it clearly had trouble from the start. My only hope is that there will be more seasons so there's a chance for redemption.

Another let down of a season
Drank2225 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Really not sure why I keep tuning in each year, but the promise of a new story always makes me think "Well maybe this one will be good" Unfortunately, not the case for the 3rd year in a row (arguably since 2016).

I felt this season started off well, in both the acting, story, and the mysteriousness. However, each episode was (intentionally) confusing and there was never really much answered up until the last few episodes. This sort of style sorta makes the finale the be all and end all of the season as it needs to explain everything and wrap up the story in a good way that makes it worth not knowing what was going on for 8 episodes.

This episode doesn't do a very good job at that unfortunately, and instead adds more unexplained/weird things while answering a few plot points. Yet, the reveals aren't very satisfying, and still lead to more questions than answers. The very short runtime (31 mins!) doesn't help much as it all felt very rushed.

I also found the acting (besides Emma Roberts) just horrible this episode. Yet, I don't think that was the fault of the actors, as I'm pretty sure they were told to act that way for some reason. It was all over the top and sorta silly, which didn't match the tone at all with the rest of the season.

The one thing that really didn't make much sense to me was the last 5 minutes where the ghost(?) of the other sister showing up which lead to a chant from Emma Roberts, which somehow easily killed Sibohan (a very ancient and powerful being) and somehow maybe (don't know for sure) the other witches and made Emma Roberts character have a seemingly(?) happy ending... I've read an explanation from someone who read the book and sure, that makes sense I guess with the added context, but in the context of what we've been shown on the screen, it doesn't make sense at all as none of it is explained. The open ending doesn't really work as it was not deserved as again, the whole season has been somewhat open ended on everything. Everyone I watched it with audibly said "What?" As the credits rolled.

The good here however, is some of the shock value (gore) and the CGI. Emma Roberts I thought was a good actress this episode as well and I thought the directing/cinematography was well done.

Overall, a very rushed season finale that doesn't really answer the questions we wanted and instead adds more mystery which annoys and makes you wonder why you wasted all those hours watching this season.

The most drawn out and boring season yet
garypickett0126 April 2024
This was the most drawn out and boring season to date. I actually liked Kim Kardashian playing that character. It suited her well and she did a good first a new comer. The cast was good, but we hardly saw the staple actors. But the story was way too drawn out. Way too drawn out. This season could have been a three to five part mini season. To have nine eps before we get around twenty minutes worth watching. That was a massive no from me. These seasons are becoming too touch and go. Certainly not a reliable watch. Maybe it's time to wrap American Horror Story up as it can't be good for the brand.

Worst episode of the whole season
markocop25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Garbage, just garbage, they built up 8 episodes for this? A 30 minute episode? Kim/Siobhan dies out of nowhere with just a simple spell, we haven't even got a scene where Anna and Dex learn that Adeline and Sonia were actually twin sisters and Sonia explained her backstory. Ivy also died out of nowhere, extremely dumb death. The other witches except the Ashley(igh)'s were painful to watch. So many characters who were needed in the storyline were missing like the old Lady who helped Anna, Dex's father, we still don't know how Kim's "bf" died. The ending just made 0 sense, Anna kills a spider and holds her baby and that's how it ends. Stupid just stupid.

Just a non-sensical finale
satoniya25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the first part of the episode up until Anna delivered the baby, especially the acting. Emma Roberts' scream sounded so jarring and genuine, and the way the baby was conceived was intriguing. But everything went downhill after that point. There were so many questions left unanswered, and the ending made no sense at all.

For starters, we don't get to find out the deal with the dolls, despite that plot taking up several scenes in previous episodes. There's no explanation as to what Siobhan is, or what the green heels and spiders are about, etc. Not only that, but the ending gives us even more unanswered questions. Why and how did Dexter's ex-girlfriend (Adeline) suddenly appear to cast a spell with Anna? How was Siobhan, an ancient powerful being, defeated SO easily with just a spell? Did the other witches die? Why did Anna put on Siobhan's hat? If Siobhan was in the room, why didn't she try to stop them? How did casting that spell make Anna's baby not a monster anymore?

Also there is Ivy. She got killed by Siobhan for killing Dex (Siobhan's son), and Sonia witnessed her mother getting killed but didn't even react. There was no conflict, no sadness, no shock from her. She saw her mother die and just acted like nothing happened. If I'm being honest, it would've made so much more sense if Sonia had helped Anna cast a spell to get rid of Siobhan for killing her mother, instead of having Adeline randomly appear for no reason.

I also felt like the witches were greatly underdeveloped. Despite giving us a lot of screen time with them in this episode they still felt flat SPECIALLY Ashley and Ashleigh which were the main witches along with Siobhan. They're just as important as Siobhan and we never got anything of significance from them this season or this episode other than explaining along with the others why they were doing all of this.

Overall, the ending felt rushed and added many things at the last minute that didn't make sense. The reasoning behind why they did all of this felt weak and strange, and the way they defeated the 'villain' (Siobhan) was just plain awful. I was really rooting for this season-I saw people hate on it, but I actually liked it but this ending is indefensible.

Yawn. What and why? I guess it created jobs?
cindyrellaexists26 April 2024
I tried to hang into this season but honestly every episode was a yawn-fest. Those 'actresses' Kim and Cara had absolutely no chemistry or watchable quality. Maybe hire actresses with elocution and annunciation skills. I get it the characters needed to be stiff but were they convincing or capable of delivering lines. No. The show has been going down hill. How sad. I'll try again next season if you promise to hire only actual actresses and not bottom feeder reality refuse and models who are so filler filled you can't tell what emotion they are attempting to display. Oh the story......was about as interesting as watching a faucet drip.

Worst AHS Ending Ever
mrprice-1097119 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I've read numerous lengthy internet breakdowns, recaps, explanations, and reviews of this episode and it makes one wonder how an episode that's almost universally considered poor at best, ever sees the light of day. I am not a professional reviewer by any stretch but even I could see that this episode, which was somewhat short, was rushed and not very thought through. Sub-plots and the deaths of the characters involved were managed very poorly or simply glossed over. And don't even get me started on the deaths of seemingly all-powerful characters in the most unclimactic ways possible. How exactly does a character that's been around for hundreds (or thousands) of years just disappear with a few words chanted? Talk about the mother of all letdowns. My point is, how does such an episode make it past writers, directors, producers, etc. Without anyone saying aloud how bad it really is?

9 stars for its shortness
jdreijer25 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a long time AHS fan/watcher (since season 3) this season's finale felt natural. It explained the things that we needed to know about this season and left us with enough unanswered moments to feast upon with our own interpretation.

It makes me sad to see certain reviews saying that nothing had been explain in the finale (like the dolls which did get explained) and people need to be spoonfed almost everything nowdays.

I also wanted to comment on how Delicate and NYC are similar yet so different because both seasons deal with the gender specific problems that these 2 seasons almost seem like a necessity in the AHS catalogue.

Note: Reading the book Delicate Condition by Danielle Valentine which this season is based on really helps connecting more dots.

I want the old feel of AHS
ktravaglio25 April 2024
Becoming aware that Ryan Murphy had no involvement in this season makes a lot of sense. First I want to rate the episode it was a six teetering to a five. Once again, much of the acting was forced you could see it. If you couldn't see it then obviously you don't pay attention to TV very well or you watch Bad t. V. It was a very short episode. It was extremely rushed. I'm guessing the ending, the viewer is supposed to figure out which direction Anna goes. So it really didn't answer any questions. Overall, the season was not my cup of tea and again. Seeing that ryan is not really involved it makes sense. I really think the direction they need to go in which I know my opinion doesn't matter, I just think they need to try to go back to the original field of American horror story or just end the series. Because the last three seasons have been honestly terrible. We need something that's not rushed or bad story line. And bad actors for that matter.

Worst season yet!!
axxmqmcy26 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Ryan Murphy is obviously obsessed with witches. Personally, I find the subject "slightly interesting " at best, certainly not interesting enough to be the basis for 3+ seasons.

That being said, "Delicate" was just Rosemary's Baby with a hack-writer rewrite and a LAME finale.

The entire season, I'd hoped there would be more that would reveal itself but guess what? There ISNT!!!

Blah blah blah, witches do witchy things, blah blah blah, Emma Roberts mumbles some Latin and destroys the bad guys (or gals, as the case may be) and poof! All is right with the world!!

Knowing what I know now, I never would have even bothered to watch the season. The "finale "was the biggest disappointment to date! I really feel like Ryan Murphy used up all his best tricks after season five and since then has just been either remaking, lame, modernized versions of old horror, movies, or just rambling off some gibberish with some witches thrown in. I probably won't be watching another season, if they even bother to produce another season after this bomb.

I was like WTF
augustineng-5402826 April 2024
What a total disappointment and a total failure of proper storytelling. The entire season was trying to build something big obviously. But ultimately it just closed everything up with a very frustrating ending, giving its fans nothing but tons of question marks and lots of dissatisfactions. Since the double feature season, I had completely given up on the expectation of a strong and solidified storyline, but rather hoping it could give me something exciting. But what I have gotten was nothing but weak and uninspiring nonsense. The AHS is no longer an interesting and fascinating fantasy but a cliche and repetitive piece of rubbish!

The absolute worst season and episode of AHS
amylorensings27 April 2024
WEAK WEAK WEAK. I LOVE Emma Roberts as an actress and the first four seasons of AHS. I think things really started going downhill during and after Season 5 Hotel with Lady Gaga. Even though the 1984 Season 9 made my stomach turn at times with all of the slashing, it was still at least fun and entertaining with an interesting storyline.

From the beginning of this episode it felt extremely rushed, things were happening really fast. Characters were dying and things were being discovered that didn't get the attention and explanation they deserved. It's just so disappointing because there were other moments in the season that felt filler. The commercial break pauses came at weird times, the scenes were cut short, I kept asking myself "is it just me or does this episode suck really bad?" I am glad I'm not alone in my thinking, my husband agreed and so do the other IMDb viewers!

Now, about Kim Kardashian ... JUST WHY??? She can't act! I really enjoyed seeing the recurring characters from season to season who aren't big-name actors, but get fun roles. Emma Roberts has stayed while the best ones have left-Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Francis Conroy, etc. Leslie Grossman and Billie Lourde were only briefly on screen, so I'm thinking Kim Kardashian got their scenes? Both of those actual actresses should have been featured more and I think they contributed to return viewers, why cast a celebrity when we could've had THEM as leads? I feel bad for them having to share the screen with her. MAYBE if the writing had been better I wouldn't have minded as much!!!

Ruined it
bribrown-0894829 April 2024
This season of American horror story would have been better if they followed the book (delicate condition by Danielle Valentine) and they should have tied in the witches from previous seasons. This version made absolutely no sense and didn't seem to tie in to any of the previous seasons.

I am so disappointed. It's just they phoned it in and stopped caring when the strike happened and didn't know what to do when it ended.

The ending to this season is the worst thing I've seen in a long time. Nothing made sense and almost ended with no explanation. Stupidest thing, you can do better. Stop coasting on previous seasons and come out with something better.

The worst ending in AHS
hatfushar30 April 2024
One of the worst episodes ever, it doesn't feel like AHS anymore, I don't even know why I'm still watching this.

The story was great on the first part but the second part was horrible, felt like we are not getting anywhere with this, the performances were okay, Kim K wasn't even that bad, it was how it executed

Emma Roberts was actually great in this, but the show was dragging a lot as it emphasised on the mysteries, without giving us any sort of revelations till episode 8,I expected so much from the first part and was waiting for a great reveal, or at least to empathise with the characters but that never happened.

What the...

Warning: Spoilers
I was somewhat on board for this season but throughout I've just gotten more and more disappointed. Between Kim's terrible acting and the poorly thought out plot, I find it hard to believe this is the same show that once gave us Murder House and Coven. Also, Emma Roberts' acting has severely gone downhill IMO, and this last episode was definitely the worst. I understand the metaphor Murphy was going for but it felt extra disingenuous coming from Kim, a woman who (on the surface at least) seems to have it all. Additionally there were no plot twists at all - it was obvious from way back that the dad was involved. Come on guys, you know what the fans want, and it's not this garbage.

weak ending!!!
horrorules27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, I'm a little disappointed by this very hasty ending, with holes in the script and so many unanswered questions, and I wonder, why?

It's a real shame because I really liked this season as a whole, it was one of the best in years, Emma Roberts is fabulous, incredibly talented and beautiful, Anna Alcott's character is very complex and fascinating, unfortunately Shioban is a very weak villain, unfortunately the fault of Kim Kardashian's lack of talent, but in fact, overall season 12 was very good, then we get to such a botched ending.

How is it possible that a very powerful and thousand-year-old witch is killed by a simple nursery rhyme???

What happens to the other witches?

Who left the dolls with nails?

Why does Anna wear Shioban's hat in the end and why does the child go from being a monster back to being human???

All unanswered questions, everything told too quickly, an ending that is not an ending.... A real shame, a very good season which however is partially ruined in the finale, in the last minutes, because for example, the birth scene is very intense, thanks to the very good Emma.

I hope that season 13 has a good ending and above all that it is the series finale, 13 seasons are enough.

More of the same same same
billlowebill24 April 2024
I can see this series is getting poor reviews - I did like it to begin with but if I'd known it would be the same for the entire series I wouldn't of bothered.

Each episode the main character sees blood, or a snake, or something, and music goes da-da-da-da-DA-DA and then someone says "hey are you in there, are you ok?" and she looks down and the blood/snake whatever has disappeared. Was it ever really there??? Did that part of the episode ever happen!?!? Who cares, I've stopped asking - this happens at least 3 times per episode and has now happened around 50 times.

There are no real characters. In fact they killed possibly the most interesting one after 20 minutes because god forbid. They're not only 2 dimensional but can change at any time or turn out to be someone else. Or whatever.

Essentially this is a well filmed/acted piss take with a fairly boring story spread painfully thin and filled out with the same 'horror' trick that is so ineffective at this point I can't even bring myself to laugh at it anymore. I give up - she's the devil or his wife (even worse) something and she's had amnesia. Or whatever, who cares.

AMAZING
rcollinsoak17 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In the present moment, Anna is escorted off the stage after just winning an Oscar. She approaches Siobhan, curious about how she had known about her victory, and also refers to Dex by his alternative name, as she hates him now. Although Anna isn't pleased to see him, she allows him to join her in the ambulance. However, an unsettling situation unfolds during their ambulance ride. Surprisingly, there is no medical professional present. Ivy takes control of driving the ambulance, and tragically, she murders Anna's security personnel. Dex steps forward to assist Anna in delivering her baby, which is imminent. Unfortunately, the act of giving birth results in the severing of his hand.

The ambulance comes to a halt at a distant garage outside the city. Ivy forcefully places Dex's hand in his own mouth to "quiet" him, while Anna lets out another scream. Shortly after, Anna is seen lying on a stretcher as the other Women in Black instruct her to push. Anna successfully gives birth to a healthy baby, but is denied the chance to hold him. Ivy accuses her of prioritizing the Oscar over her own child. This leads to a heated confrontation, with Anna attempting to reclaim her baby only to be stopped by a sudden attack from behind. She is urged to give in and cease her resistance.

Anna awakens to find herself surrounded by many other members of the satanic cult. To her dismay, she realizes that she is unable to move, as she has been paralyzed. The women disclose that they seek out women who possess perfection and ambition, offering them an opportunity to be part of their mission. However, they withhold the details of this mission from Anna for the time being. Siobhan, one of the women, blames Anna for her current state, asserting that her attempt to reclaim the baby led to her paralysis. In addition, they present Anna with a choice: either join their ranks and receive the remarkable gifts of youth and beauty they possess, or face a fate similar to Preecher's, whom had tragically been decapitated after being kidnapped from the ER. Furthermore, Siobhan shocks Anna by revealing that she had a romantic relationship with Dex's father, and is, in fact, Dex's biological mother. Astonishingly, Anna discovers that she gave birth to the most powerful vessel of all, a baby who belongs to Siobhan and Dex. Siobhan informs Anna that she can hold the baby, but doing so would mean she must join their cause.

Anna is brought to a sinister nursery where Siobhan eliminates Ivy for murdering Dex. Siobhan discloses that she has preserved Dex's reproductive organs to create creatures with women, including Anna, in order to save humanity by establishing a matriarchy. Siobhan claims to be the Auteur and the ruler of the world. She entrusts Anna with a baby, who is discovered to have claws. Anna struggles as she feeds the baby, enduring pain from his bites and bloodsucking. Siobhan emphasizes that motherhood, despite its pain, is a beautiful experience. She asserts that she and Anna are blood bound, destined to be together forever.

Adeline, dressed in white, appears to Anna while she is singing to the baby and shedding tears. Adeline starts chanting the same prayer she used to recite in her restaurant, and Anna follows suit. Adeline conveys that only light can defeat darkness, and their combined chanting commences the destruction of Siobhan. Siobhan crumbles, the mirror shatters, and the monstrous baby vanishes. Anna's paralysis is lifted. All that remains is Siobhan's headpiece, which Anna wears. Upon hearing a baby cry, Anna locates an all-white nursery with a normal baby in a crib. Despite encountering a spider, Anna swiftly eliminates it before picking up the baby. She hears whispers and realizes she still possesses her Oscar and her baby, concluding with what she always had wanted: It all.

Is it just me, or do those winged hats remind you of anything?
susanhathaway25 April 2024
It's not the most brilliant of the series, but overall this has been a fairly good season, albeit one with an extremely long hiatus that led me--among others, I'm guessing--to forget a lot of what happened before Part 2 resumed. The story was fairly interesting, the characters were fairly attention-holding (if not always likable), and the story was, on the whole, involving. Still, it seemed disturbing that the moral of the tale seemed to be that a woman can't have both a career and a family, or else a bizarre little coven will swoop down and take her children away.

Also, although they clearly were intended to look like black wings, did the odd appendages on the cultists' headgear remind anyone else of Playboy Bunny "ears"?

Terrible Ending!
tony-topouzidis26 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This had so much potential and they just wasted it. First of all I though the acting was okay considering the material that was given to them to work with.

I don't know if the writers are the same with previous seasons but the show even though it started with each season being a different story, they connected some seasons together later. I really hoped this was going to be one of those seasons which could have saved it at least. Once I realized it was about witches I kept hoping they will connect it with Coven somehow... I mean Madison in Coven was a movie star, Anna was a movie star in this season, she looks the same apart from being older. The season was about witches and it could have easily been a prequel on how the witches from Coven were born.

As a standalone story it all in all was terrible. I still don't know what the whole season was about. Motherhood? Witches? Stalkers? Rich people? Also I refused to believe the part where Siobhan died was real... a powerful witch died from a ghost and Anna chanting a few words?

A Flat Fart of a Finale
christoffergaddini26 April 2024
I loved the first half of this season.

Kim was fantastic, perfectly cast, especially with the reveal of who her character ACTUALLY is. Conversely, Roberts was wholly forgettable as the doe-eyed actress who sold her soul for fame. But during the course of 8 episodes this women suffers through traumatic experience after traumatic experience. Thus, it simply does not make sense that she would play along with all these horrific experiences just for an Oscar. I mean, this achievement is something all gifted actors strive for, but over the course of the season it became so clear that she was selling her soul, or baby, for the Oscar that it was not believable that this character would go along with this endeavor.

She's a famous actress that's nominated for an Oscar and she's young, so there will be other opportunities for her in the future. Thus, why does she go along when it's so painfully obvious that she's walking into a trap? Again, not Robert's fault, as the character was written horribly. There's a lot of on-the-nose imagery in this finale where she goes through similar horrors, but holding her Oscar. Be careful what you wish for! (🙄).

Structurally, the success of this season hinged on the finale. They set up a million different mysteries that are left unanswered, then they end with l campy villains talking about their evil plans for 30 minutes which culminates in the most ridiculous dues ex machina I've seen in years to defeat the big bad at the end. No tension, no build up, a (dead?) character comes out of nowhere to assist the protagonist who easily kills the main villain, despite this villain just explaining for the past 15 minutes that she was centuries old and the most powerful being on the planet. (🙄).

Let's talk about the set design. They swing for the fences at the end, attempting to pull off a David Lynch-style fever-dream situation.

At one point, the villains stand before an amorphous pile of meat hanging above what looks like a sphere-shaped blood fountain.

The main villain waters a weird plant with blood.

There's an invisible monster that (sometimes?) can be seen by its claw hand.

It's a kitchen-sink approach to horror that makes it painfully obvious that the writer/director hired for this episode does not know how to effectively play in this genre space. It wants to be a little David Cronenberg, a little David Lynch, and steals quite a bit from Dune if you can believe it. None of it works, and the shallowness of the whole endeavor is insulting to fans who stuck it out for 8 episodes of build up to this flat fart of a finale.

Afterwards I vowed to be done with AHS as I've done so many times before. It always starts strong and loses steam by the last couple episodes. It would be far more effective to make these seasons 3-4 episodes long. Without so much "mysterious" filler, much of which this season was left unexplored (ie, the dolls), this season may have sustained the tension that was so effective in episodes 1-4.
