Don't waste your time with this episode
pippolito11 April 2024
This one was a complete waste. Maybe, MAYBE, if you're dying for more, watch the first few minutes with Drake Bell. His story is still just amazing.

The rest, I promise no matter who you are, is not worth your time at all. The interviewer was really bad, and the people getting interviewed did not need any more airtime for their stories. It just felt like they made this episode purely because the series was such a hit and they wanted to capitalize one last time.

Extremely rushed, lazy, and pointless television.

The rest of the series was great, but this one was just simply, not it. Stay away.

Rushed

Warning: Spoilers
You could tell this was rushed and not as well thought out as previous episode. The host not only did not seem like the correct host for this sensitive material, but it appeared as if she were often reading cue cards when she was talking to Drake.

When she was interviewing in-person, a lot of her questions were frankly just poorly phrased, timed and came off as interrogative. The victims weren't the perpetrators and I was more uncomfortable by her-NOT the material.

The questions did not prompt any new revelations, nor were questions asked in any visceral way. It seemed as if the host was being presented the information and responding as if hearing it for the first time.

What even was this?
akaalmodova11 April 2024
The documentary that first came out with the 4 episodes, was great. But what in the world even was this episode?

It felt randomly and hurriedly thrown together and in a completely different format than the rest of the doc. This episode doesn't even feel like it actually belonged in the series.

It just seemed more like 20/20 decided to do a round up, and then they randomly inserted it at the end of the other 4 episodes. It didn't even seem at all like the original producers had anything to do with this episode. It could've been its own standalone segment on the Today Show. It did not belong here and didn't provide any extra content or sustenance to the doc as a whole.

Waste of time, don't even bother watching.

Drake

Warning: Spoilers
Having Drake Bell continue his compelling and painful story in part five was needed, and I would have liked for Soledad O'Brien to read out on screen the names of the stars who wrote letters in support of Brian Peck and give them a right of reply. Also I think the absence of Kenan Thompson was conspicuous, because he could have spoken about his experiences on the set of All That, and whether he suffered any disadvantage because of his race init.

Anyway, could there be a part six of Breaking the Silence where we get to hear from say Dan, but maybe not, because he's already responded on social media.

Episode 5 is race-baiting garbage, don't bother
prizm414 April 2024
Episode 5 is garbage. The initial Drake Bell section is fine, but after that it became race-baiting trash.

One black girl on The Amanda Show was told by a director that Amanda is the star of the show, not HER, so she should essentially put up with unpleasant things in the script.

Sure enough, this episode cuts to the black mother of a different cast member saying, "That's racist!".

Really? Did these people not watch the previous episodes of this series? It's FILLED with child cast members of any colour being treated horribly and either told to deal with it, or were too afraid to say something.

Watching more of this episode, it seemed like the people being interviewed were somewhat being encouraged to find racism in what happened. You could see one black guy that was hesitant to go down that path, but he was basically egged on by the black girl next to him. I couldn't finish this episode.
