Too dark, too muffled, but really enjoyable.

After the death of her parents, Mary Yellan travels to live with her Aunt Patience, at Jamaica Inn, Bodmin moor, an establishment run by Patience's hit tempered husband Joss. Mary is instantly exposed to a dangerous new life.

I've just completed the book, and was keen to watch the film, but I remembered this series from 2014, when I originally watched it, I was unaware of the story, so I feel I have a better understanding of it.

Visually, it's a mixed bag, some of it looks magical, the scenes on the beach for example, tremendous, now ...the scenes inside Jamaica Inn itself, couldn't they have put a few extra Schillings inside the meter, and had some extra lighting, there's moody, and then there's plain too dark, chunks of it were impossible to see.

I'm a huge fan of Sean Harris, and he plays villainous parts with ease, he's excellent as Joss, very imposing and menacing, but is guilty of mumbling on multiple occasions.

Jessica Brown Findlay and Joanne Whalley were very good I thought, strong acting all round. I look forward to more from Ben Daniels and the magical Shirley Henderson.

So, I couldn't see lots of it, and I couldn't hear chunks of it, but I rather enjoyed it, I quit after this episode during its original run, this time I'm sticking with it.

7/10.
