Between marital issues; us getting to know Sheree's home life; and Bay's pursuit of an education, and Tank's pursuit of romance; a lot goes on. And, strangely, somehow Kathryn and John, who rarely are interesting on their own, seem to have a really good story developing. But, Daphne still has quite a few people in her life, Sheree being the focus this episode, who can give them all a run for their money. With that said, let's get Bay out of the way.
Topic 1: Bay
After Bay fighting to be the center of the drama for so long on the show, she has dramatically taken a step back and now her storyline deals with her trying to look impressive on a college application. Thus leading to her rejoining field hockey, and dealing with a guy like Tank. Now, often on shows like this, people like Tank aren't put out there to be love interest. You get the Emmett types with the beautiful eyes and Abercrombie type of faces or guys like Ty who look like they could be Dwayne Johnson's cousin. Which, to me, is why Bay, seemingly at first, didn't like the idea of Tank liking her after Daphne pointed it out.
However, Tank, being the sweetheart he is, I think maybe slowly winning her over. You see, he is there to help her prep to impress Toby enough so she can get back on the team; he goes to the actual practice, with his boys, to help cheer her on; and then, even after she lets him down easy, he is so doting on her when she cuts her hand that she doesn't freak out at all as he kneels beside her, and the look in her eyes makes me think that perhaps she is slowly starting to like him, and likely will think she was so stupid for turning him down. Which likely will lead to her trying to figure out a way to kind of make her rejection forgotten.
Topic 2: Sheree
Often I note how ABC Family really does try to present a new kind of family, especially with this show and The Fosters. But, with Sheree, they decide to present a family in which a mother has mental issues. Now, we don't know what exactly her issues are, but between her eyes and her actions, much less how uncomfortable everyone was in the situation, it is apparent something isn't right. However, with Sheree not fond of the idea of trading in something bad for something worse, she asks Daphne to mind her business, but since Regina witnesses Sheree's mom, she thinks something needs to be said. She even refers to her own situation with alcoholism, and what may have happened to her, or anyone else, if Bay didn't say something.
But, perhaps the most interesting bit is the fact they are showing someone with a mental illness on TV. I mean, granted that Sheree isn't likely to be on past this season, but there is so much to explore with her story. Between how her mom became ill, what she maybe ill with, and the various means of coping the two have, there is so much to explore. The hardest part though, of this story being developed, is maybe the fact that I feel like the show tested the waters a few times about the idea of going to a dark place, be it Regina's drinking, Bay's friend Zarra, or even Daphne's assault when she had the food truck. So, it makes me wonder if Sheree may end up with more than a bruise in the future.

Let me first push Toby out of the way for we learn that Nicki isn't coming back no time soon and seemingly is sticking in Peru a little longer, something John says, which I feel was a bit spiteful in a sort of, "I told you that you two weren't ready to be married yet." But, that aside, while Toby has his place in the episode, the real focus is on John, Janice and Kathryn. Let's begin with Kathryn since she perhaps was the one in most need of a real shock to her storyline.
Now, Kathryn has finally traveled to New York, with Renzo, and upon meeting Renzo's publishing friend, her first book idea is dismissed. However, upon drinking, in what may have been a lesbian bar, Kathryn starts getting loose lipped. A story she tells hints at her experimenting, or hearing about such, back when she simply was a baseball player's wife. That one story perhaps was the most interesting thing Kathryn has said in years, but at the same time it may have hinted to one of the many reasons John and her have marital issues. Thinking about it, I always assumed it was because how controlling he was, but never put a lot of thought into why he was that way. Upon hearing that story though, you can kind of understand why, to a point.
However, the real drama comes when Janice and John get close. First in Toby's apartment, and then alone in John's home after watching some sports event. Now, being this is soap opera-ish, you can see something was to go down, and someone would see, but oh I can't wait for what Regina saw to get spilled or confessed. Kathryn and John, as I said last week, surely maybe on the road to separation, which I am strangely happy for.
