This is a pleasant surprise. The middle section of Stephen and Russell meeting up with a girl superhero and kicking some villain of the week butt is so unashamedly fun that you're waiting for the show to spoil it. But despite some self-righteous posturing from John and Cara, the ending is actually pretty positive and even Cara ends up getting in on the superhero fun.Preferably more of this.Talia unfortunately looks like every female guest star on the show so it's probably a good thing she doesn't appear much and we get the more distinctive, and sassier, Mallory instead. And it's nice to see Russell getting a larger role than usual.
Of course, there's still a bunch of arc elements to drag it down. The Jedekiah/Morgan storyline continues to pursue the path of least interest. There's more John/Cara romance scenes(although there's a nice subtle reminder of her link with Stephen). And Hillary develops multiple personality disorder and out of nowhere throws herself at Stephen:It remains to be seen whether she's faking or whether she actually has had a personality transplant.
The ending of Stephen tracking down Roger's body surprisingly quickly is a pleasant surprise. The entrance of Jedekiah less so.
