Love-Hate Relationship With Reign
elizabeth_rose32421 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This show pleases me some weeks and other weeks it bores me. I won't focus on the fact that the history portrayed in this show is very, very wrong. Or that the costumes are ridiculous and pretty much prom dresses. However, the overall plot is entertaining. As is the character of Catherine Medici. She is brilliant.

But that is not what is wrong or right with this episode. For one, the relationship of Bash and Kenna feels forced and I don't like it at all. It seems as if in this episode, the writers are trying to create a love that isn't even there. Are we supposed to have already moved on from the Bash/Mary idea? I understand she is married, but why create this love triangle between Bash/Francis/Mary if it is going to end 13 episodes later? Don't get me wrong, I hate love triangles as much as the next girl. They're cliché and have been ruined by that horrid set of vampire books. But I was kinda rooting for Bash and Mary to be together. Now Kenna has weaved her way into his heart, and it doesn't really even make that much sense.

On another note, Mary's brother has a Scottish accent. That is great. Perfect even. But also odd. Why doesn't Mary have a Scottish accent? Why bring in a Scottish speaking family member who sounds completely different than Mary? I just don't get it.

Henry finally gets what is coming to him. Thank goodness. And that horrid Penelope is gone. I am very glad that the writers have gotten rid of her. She was incredibly annoying. We can only have one vindictive witch per show, and Catherine has filled that role.

AND ONE MORE THING. WHY. DEAR GOD WHY. Why, during Lola's wedding, was the orchestra playing "ROYALS" by LORDE. WHY? I am pretty sure that neither the song or Lorde were around in the 1560s.

I will continue watching this show. Not for the mediocre acting or the horrible love triangles, or even the over abundance of sex scenes, but simply because I adore Elizabeth I and would love to see how they end Mary Queen of Scots's life. (Sounds harsh, but she drives me crazy). And it definitely won't be Englishmen while she's on her way to Scotland. Sorry chick. Lizzie the First has something different in mind.
