Written by Yuto Suzuki, the Sakamoto Days manga has been a marginal cult classic for years now; the manga debuted in 2020 and has quietly attracted a large fanbase who love the quirky action-comedy take on the hitman sub-genre. Fans have been demanding an anime adaptation for years now and recently, some outlets reported that Netflix listed the project as an upcoming one as part of its Netflix Anime brand. At the time, we did not report on it because it was just a rumor and a plain list with no official confirmation, so it did not seem overly reliable, and it turns out that our assumption was correct.
Namely, Netflix has officially removed the Sakamoto Days anime from its list of upcoming projects, but that does not mean that we don’t have any good news for you, as it has – indeed – been confirmed that the Sakamoto Days anime is happening,...

In 2021, Bleach celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new art exhibition giving details about the series, its history, its progress over the years, and the overall success of Tite Kubo’s magnum opus. The art exhibition was opened on December 18, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan, and it was probably the biggest celebration of the Bleach franchise.

To honor the legacy of Kubo and his masterpiece, other prominent manga creators from the industry also came together and shared their own artwork featuring the characters and events from the Bleach manga series. This was their way of congratulating Kubo on completing 20 years and still going strong with the latest adaptation of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War.
While all the artworks from the manga creators had a lot of importance, the illustrations from Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) and Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto) held the most value, as all of them make up the “Big Three” of the anime industry,...

Kaiju No. 8’s anime debut has been one many fans have been waiting for ever since it was first announced. So much so that of the season, it was perhaps the most anticipated of them all. Having the contributions of Western music merged with a classic story, Naoya Matsumoto’s tale had a lot to look forward to.
Kaiju No. 8
Following a tale perhaps told many times with a twist that makes all the difference, Kaiju No. 8 is both a successful manga and now an anime. If anime-only fans wish to indulge more in that world, the manga is always open for them. However, that is not all.
SUGGESTEDKaiju No. 8 Episode 2 – When is it Releasing and What Happens Next? – Explained
So far, the series has already promised fans with two different spin-offs. That may not be enough, considering that a third is also on its way.

Japanese movies can do it all; they could be thought-provoking and real-life-inspired films like Plan 75, which addresses the growing older population in Japan, as well as mindless anime adaptations like Assassination Classroom. In short, Japanese cinema boasts some of the most fantastic actors and talented directors in the world today, and Yusuke Ishida’s Zom 100 is no exception to the rule. Adapted from a manga by Haro Aso, this live-action movie is a young man’s journey towards freedom from corporate slavery and learning to follow his heart amidst a world infested by zombies. Starring Eiji Akaso, Mai Shiraishi, and Shuntaro Yanagi, among others, the movie shines as a horror comedy with a tinge of slice-of-life mixed into it, as Akira Tendo (Akaso) rediscovers himself when his surroundings are overrun by zombies. Read on for an exhaustive review of Zom 100, we hope this is right up your alley.

It’s the final week of July and two more new horror movies are headed onto the big screen this weekend. They’ll have to compete with the #Barbenheimer phenomenon, but both new horror releases look to bring very different counter programming to the box office. One is the next rated “R” fright fest from A24, while the other is a horror-comedy built for families.
Here’s all the new horror releasing July 25– July 30, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
First up, a tragedy leads two dysfunctional families to intertwine in disturbing ways in Screambox Exclusive Repulse, now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered platform.
The bleak, brutal Czech film harkens back to boundary-pushing horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.
In the film, Kateřina and Robert raise their young daughter in a luxurious modern villa, but their family life can hardly be called harmonious.

Per the official Biohazard: Death Island Twitter account, the first volume of the manga will arrive on May 19th on Comic Hu. Details are still being kept under wraps at the moment but you can check out some of the awesome art below that’s already been released.

Wondering just where that fanservice shot from Resident Evil: Dead Island from yesterday came from? Animation studio Kadokawa has your answer with the brand-new Resident Evil: Death Island trailer!
The Death Island trailer does the usual trailer things of summarizing the plot, but also gives us more fanservice shots of the team shooting zombies and doing slick acrobatics, Chris Redfield in a Hawaiian shirt (?!), swimming Lickers and more. The trailer itself is in English with Japanese text, so you won’t need to hunt down a translation.
Keep in mind that the trailer only gives the Japanese release date of July 7. It’s still not confirmed what the worldwide release date will be.

This article contains spoilers for Re/Member.
Nothing says Japanese horror films like supernatural scares, urban legends, and grudge-bearing spirits. Eiichirō Hasumi, director of Assassination Classroom and Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, attempts to bring all these elements together in Re/Member, a movie adaptation of Karadasagashi (Body Search), a manga spread over 17 volumes and 153 chapters.
The plot of Re/Member follows the age-old movie formula of time loops with its core theme leaning towards puzzle-solving. Japanese cinema is no stranger to playing with time, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time being the most well-known of the bunch, though this film takes on a far darker approach to the genre. In case you haven’t read the manga, six classmates are haunted by an unforgiving spirit and tasked with the retrieval of its body parts. Fail to find those parts and the day resets, bringing about your untimely and brutal death.

Under the agreement, The Seven’s creative team “will produce multiple original live-action titles that will be exclusively available to Netflix,” the two partners said Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The new agreement builds on prior work Netflix has done both with TBS and The Seven’s key creative team. Akira Morii, who leads development and production at The Seven, recently collaborated closely with the streamer as the driving producer behind its breakout Japanese original Alice in Borderland, which is set to return for a second season next month. The absurdity here mostly revolves around the main protagonist, Haruto Higashiyama, a young, smart, and handsome history teacher, whose appearance in Niitaka High School has made him immediately popular with his students, and particularly the female ones. Higashiyama, however, harbors a rather dark secret, since his biggest dream is...

A while back, I was looking for some new manga to read when I happened upon a science fiction, action manga called “Assassination Classroom” written by Yūsei Matsui The story follows a group of young, misfit junior high students that are essentially contracted by the government in order to help aid in the assassination of a global threat who destroyed the moon; that global threat just happens to be their new teacher. Before you keep reading, I will warn you that there are going to be some pretty massive spoilers for Assassination Classroom ahead, so if you don’t want the

Japanese creators have the uncanny ability of making nonsensical and preposterous themes and notions seem coherent, and in the process creating very entertaining titles. This tendency becomes quite evident in some of the anime series of the latest years, as the “Monogatari” series, “Kill La Kill” and “Assassination Classroom.” “One Punch Man” is also a distinct example of the tendency.
The anime is based on the homonymous, ongoing web comic by One, which begun publication in 2009. In 2012, Viz Media remade it into an extremely successful manga that sold over 4,5 million copies by 2014, and in 2015, Madhouse produced the anime series, which consists of 12 episodes.
The script revolves around Saitama, a human so strong that can vanquish any kind of enemy comes his way with just a single punch. And living in City Z, where monsters appear frequently to cause disasters, he has plenty of chances to do so.

We have a global problem that spans not only anime, but the entire entertainment industry itself, and that problem is representation. In celebration of Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I got a chance to sit down and speak with a few incredibly talented actors in the anime industry, including Emi Lo, Apphiya Yu, and Shawn Gann We took our time discussing how representation in the industry has changed in recent years, but

Isn’t it just the worst when you’re out with friends at your favorite restaurant and everyone’s discussing Assassination Classroom and you’re unable to jump in? How about when you’re waiting for the bus to arrive and people are discussing the latest Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure plot twist? Or when your cashier at the supermarket tries to make small talk and naturally namedrops the eternal equalizer, Space Dandy, and you just have to quietly look at your shoes?
Okay, so anime’s presence might not be quite at that level, but the popularity of the once-niche area of the animation industry only continues to blossom and become more mainstream. Not only are there now ample anime series that are available on popular streaming services,...

Director Kosai Sekine visited the third edition of the Japannual Film Festival to present his two movies “Love at Least” (2019) and “Tower of the Sun” (2018).
Kosai Sekine made his debut in 2005 with the short-film “Right Place”. In the following year, he won the Young Director Grand Prix Award in Cannes for “Daughter”. Since then, he has been working in the advertisement and music industry. He made commercials for Toyota, Google, Uniqlo, and many other companies. In 2010, Sekine directed the “Nike Music Shoe” campaign, which earned him the Silver Award at Cannes Lions.
With “Love at Least” as a fictional, and “Tower of the Sun” as a documentary movie, the Japanese director enters the territory of full-length theatrical motion pictures. Enough reasons to sit down with him and do a full-length interview.
You are already very successful in commercials as well as in the short film business. When did you decide to shoot a feature film?...

A dose of 21st century attitude mixes nicely with other winning ingredients in “Kingdom,” a thoroughly entertaining adaptation of Yasuhisa Hara’s hugely popular manga set in China, 245 B.C. Centered on two orphan boys who dream of becoming “the greatest generals on Earth,” this Japanese take on a Chinese wuxia is overwrought at times and too simply plotted at others, but wins through with colorful characters, top-class swordplay and snappy dialogue that’ll especially connect with younger viewers. Energetically directed and co-written by manga-to-screen specialist Shinsuke Sato, “Kingdom” grossed a whopping $50 million in local cinemas earlier this year and ought to perform strongly in limited North American release from August 16.
Taking its thematic cues from literary classics including “The Prince and the Pauper,” and adopting the high-spirited story-telling of action-adventures such as Akira Kurosawa’s “The Hidden Fortress,” “Kingdom” refreshes a familiar tale of heroes emerging from poverty to...

Netflix’s cutest death-metal fan is returning for more face-melting good times. The streaming service announced Monday at Anime Expo it has renewed “Aggretsuko” for Season 2.
The charming anime series follows 25-year-old red panda Retsuko, who works an oppressive office job by day and vents her frustrations through death metal karaoke at night. The series examines micro-aggressions, sexism, and the pressures society puts on people to conform to a specific “good” person image.
In the Season 1 review, IndieWire noted, “As it stands, this delightful season is more like filling up on Costco samples than a more substantial series binge. That’s no doubt part of its charm. If Netflix sees fit to renew it for another season, however, there’s definitely an appetite for meatier fare.”
