Doesn't Get Us Engaged

This is yet another film about technology gone mad. In an attempt to control all of the evils of the cyber-world, a mass of robots descend on the cities. The problem is they have been programmed with their own agendas and go berserk. Of course, humans have no power to stop them and that is the problem. There is no suspense or challenge that is fulfilled.

Sync: More like a trailer for something that doesn't exist

Without credits this British made sci-fi short just stands at about seven minutes in length and as with all shorts that is a major hurdle to get past.

How do you tell a story in seven minutes? Well plenty manage it, but they certainly don't here.

It tells the story of world where cyber crime is rife and where a company uses robots to transfer data securely. But what happens when one such entity turns bad?

Personally I think the concept is dumb but even if I could get past that the whole thing is only that.............a concept.

There is no real story here, just the opening scene of something and that just doesn't work for me.

Sure for 5k it looks great but as a short, as an independent creation it fails miserably.

The Good:

Looks great for the budget

The Bad:

Serves no purpose

Goofy concept

Things I Learnt From This Short:

These things serve no purpose beyond pitching ideas to folks with money

Randomly generic SciFi short

Warning: Spoilers
"Sync" is a British 8-minute short film from 2014, so this one has its 5th anniversary soon and it was written and directed by Hasraf Dulull, a very prolific visual effects artist who has progressed to full feature films now it seems. Like I wrote in the title already, this is a little science fiction film with focus on cyber criminality. I cannot say I know any of the actors in here, but I cannot rule out that I've come across some of them in other projects already. But I don't think this is the reason why I eventually disliked this one. To me it felt like more of a part of a movie and not a standalone movie on its own. Certainly had a touch of style over substance. The looks of it weren't that bad I guess, but also not too great and the actors can't be blamed either as their characters were really not written in s way to shine, but just to be means to the technical approach and tale here. Maybe they had in mind to make a sequel at some point, but with the time passed already, it doesn't seem too likely. All in all, really only see it if you totally adore the genre, otherwise this probably isn't worth your time, not even at under 10 minutes. I give it a thumbs-down.
