An interesting take of people becoming beasty-chow.

The story is straightforward with a possible twist at the end. The characters are standard yet there is more of a phycological slant to the all-knowing and protecting sheriff (Kevin Durand: Paul Shields), the people that are supposed to be dumb and do dumb things are not as dumb as in usual movies. No one is trying to keep the town open for tourists, and there are no ridiculous "If you love me then stay home and let the world rot" scenes.

-------------

Some nasty logging project stirs up an Algonquin-based Native American folklore "Wendigo" creature who must now find a new home and something tasty to eat. You guessed it right off.

What is not clear at first is why the local sheriff is so sulky. Also, never figured out is why the creature finds many living things tasty but just keeps knocking the sheriff off his feet as it speeds by; I assumed there was some sort of connection that never appeared. The movie also has a sort of "Do you believe in god?" theme but they never try to bump off the creature with a cross, holy water, or any of that stuff. In the end, most are revealed with the standard twist. This would make a good start to a series.
