Can't comprehend the negative reviews?

First review ever written, in response to the two "1/10" reviews given for this episode. I'm not sure what people were expecting...

After previewing the episode for about 30 seconds, I decided to stop watching and invite my horror movie buddy around.

It was better/more than I expected. If you like anything "supernatural/exorcism" style and can handle horror; I believe you'll love this.

Great cast/characters. Just waiting to see where they'll take it from here!

I think it's pretty good.

I'm not a fan of the Walking Dead. I'm not a fan of Robert Kirkman. But I think this is pretty good.

This is not a kind of show I love to watch. But when I saw this episode, I have to say that it's interesting. In my opinion, this may not be the very good start if compare to the Walking Dead, but it has its own style. It's dark and scary (but not so much). I hope it keeps getting better because this episode has only the possession, and they said "possession is just the beginning". So I hope they'll do what they said.

Sorry for my English.

Warning: Spoilers
This show starts creepy scene of a boy clearly possessed, feasting on a roach. Didn't see that coming!

The build up of the main character, Kyle Barnes, serves as a backstory to the current events going on in the town.

The show gets more intense when the Priest steps in to help the mother of the possessed boy.

The intensity goes up a notch when Kyle steps in to help. As seen with most demonic possessions, the "demon" taunts Kyle with something about his past. After a violent struggle, Kyle's blood seems to be the "holy water". The demon finally leaves the boy.

At the end, a flashback scene seems to show Kyle's wife being possessed.

A very promising story!

Warning: Spoilers
Although this show contains a lot references with other mystery and horror stories. The style in which the events are presented, take the viewer to a modern "Exorcist" version with a little bit of "Harry Potter included". Those elements bring a special touch to the ongoing story. After watching the show for the first time, I had to watch it over again because I wanted to understand the plot as well as to enjoy it one more time. Nevertheless, for those of us who like horror stories, it fit us like a glove. If they develop the story and keep us, viewers, attached to it with interesting events and unveiling new mysteries I think it has a chance to last for a very long time.

Well done for a pilot episode

Warning: Spoilers
I think this episode caught some undeserved criticisms with its first couple of reviews. The episode is well adapted from Kirkman's comic series - as it should be as I believe he adapted the series for television himself. Anyway, I saw a couple of reviews stating the the character's in the story are portrayed as backwards, Bible Thumpers. I'm not sure where they pulled their opinions from, but I think the prior review given are poor.

The series takes place in a Rome, Georgia, a small blue collar town where everyone seems to know each other and their business. The protagonist, Kyle Barnes, is living a life of self inflicted isolation, which seems to be brought on by an incident in his past. Kyle learns of a local boy who is suffering from the same affliction his mother was stricken with when he himself was a child. Kyle joins forces with a local clergyman to help cure the boy of his alignment with an - and this is where the show gets interesting - exorcism (kind of an exorcism; watch to see what happens).

I'll stop ruining the plot now.

The show is well put together. The characters in the series look to be interesting. I can imagine we'll see a lot of interesting character development similar to what we've seen from Kirkman in the Walking Dead. While we are on the subject of similarities to the Walking Dead, this series is also gritty and ultra violent. So, if you're into that sort of thing, this series is for you.

I think religion is also going to be an intriguing element of this series. Outcast's niche is demonic possession, so of course religion is going to be dragged into the plot. Regardless of your ideology, you'll see Kirkman gives both sides a fair shot. You'll see some characters grow to question their faith and some character's faith will be restored.

I can't give this episode a perfect score because I can only judge it against itself, but it is very close to perfect. I look forward to seeing more from Outcast!

A Darkness Surrounds Him

I guess it is no coincidence that Outcast is set in a town called Rome, West Virginia. It is meant to make you think of the other Rome and the Vatican.

Philip Glenister gets to practice is American accent again. He plays a priest and exorcist Reverend Anderson. He questioned his beliefs but after an encounter with Kyle Barnes (Patrick Fugit) he discovered his calling. Small houses, all over the world are plagued with demonic possession.

Troubled Kyle has returned to Rome. His sister welcomes him, people all around him are wary of him. Kyle's mother and wife were both possessed. Townsfolk think he is to blame.

Kyle helps out the Reverend who is treating a boy who is possessed. It seems Kyle is the one who makes a breakthrough, something in him can repel the demons.

It is easy to see in the opening episode that Outcasts owes a lot to The Exorcist. It is a dark fantasy horror series.

You have children possessed, you have a child being hit hard so they expel their demonic ectoplasm. It is darkness in the edge of town.

With washed out colours, the opening episode is grim rather than Grimm Fairy Tales.

Pure Crap
After 15min into this show. I couldn't take it any longer and wanted to pull my eyes out.

I started to watch this because of the actor Philip Glenister. Philip is a well-accomplished actor and from what I did see of him does an excellent job. But the writer depicts this world as a backwater, uneducated bible belt, bunch of dumb-asses (my words) world. First the kid and the cockroach, then the recluse, and then some kid is violently put in the closet. Maybe that was Harry Potter.

I turned it off after that.

AMC has a good show called Preacher. That's worth watching.
