. . . but it veers wildly off-track by conflating a Movie Star Personae with a person's Real Life Actuality. Those "witnessing" here strike me as the sort of people making up the lynching posse of THE OXBOW INCIDENT. They know upon which side their bread is buttered, and they go along with a hurtful myth to get along (not unlike the vast majority of Germans in the 1930s). It's as if this crew of apologists slept through the 1940s and 1950s, when John Wayne was the self-appointed Snitch-in-Chief for the taxpayer-funded Un-American Inquisition Committee, ruining the lives or getting people murdered such as his Hollywood colleagues Anne Revere and John Garfield. The German People saw plenty of affable "Up Close and Personal" propaganda film of their Beloved Fuhrer, which made him seem like an avuncular cream-puff (sound familiar?). But actions speak louder than words, and John Wayne's Crimes against Humanity make him--as one commentator says twice here--a "Lightning Rod" for all time. People used to believe in a God like Thor, who would literally hurl a Bold of Death from the clouds to fry the "Whited Sepulchers" who acted at being Holier-Than-Thou while committing the greatest transgressions of anyone (as the current documentary TRUMBO exposes the Real Life version of John Wayne). The fact that the Fuhrer and "Il Duce" got away with destroying as many lives as they did for so many years proves that the All-Seeing Avenger in the Sky is just a myth.
