This was a very good story about a noblewoman, In Yub, who, due to awful circumstances, ends up losing everything: her father, her prestige, her husband on her wedding day. She eventually becomes a maid to her "best friend" who turns out to be an evil bitchy lady. The plot was interesting because - as in many historical dramas - it usually involves the King and his family or other elites. This one was powerful, sad, and had comedic moments and focused on the lives of servants, slaves who obey without question...or death...or to be sold to another wealthy family with even worse circumstances. It kept me hooked to the very end!
Actress Jung Yoo Mi, whom I have seen in many other costume dramas, was wonderful in a leading role (In Yub), for a change. She usually plays the mean lady. She was sincere, vulnerable and showed strength throughout. Very handsome actor Oh Ji Ho, played the Head Servant Moo Myong. I was not thrilled with his acting: stiff in manner and stride, not much expression in his eyes, and wore an UGLY hairpiece to the very end!! I prayed that he would become a Prince at the end...to no avail. He was given the most unflattering "rags" to wear which made him look enormous and unattractive. What a pity! Actor Kim Dong Wook was excellent as Kim Eun Gi, the love interest and eventual enemy. My favorite veteran actors, both male and female were incredible in supporting roles, especially actress Lee Cho Hee as the most loyal maid and friend of In Yub. I cried in most of her scenes.
I would have gladly given this series a 10, but for that frustrating ending. A man SO in love who would die for her...and ONE KISS at the weirdest moment... in a jail cell!!! Why do Korean writers and directors do this??? Many of the other characters were given sweet endings, bad guys got what they deserved, etc. But the leading lady got...?
Oh well. At least it was not boring from beginning to end. A good watch.
