He Can Tell A Lie
boblipton10 December 2021
Harry Myers and wife Rosemary Theby are trying to bring up their child in the mold of George Washington -- Myers' character's middle name. However, when Miss Theby discovers that Meyers told a lie, she insists on separating from him, so great is her disillusionment. They take the house and draw a white line down the middle of it.

It's one of the series of shorts that Myers and Miss Theby, who were married, did. Meyers is remembered as the drunk millionaire in Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS, but he had a long career as a leading comic in his own right. This series was based on the Mr & Mrs. Sidney Drew series for Vitagraph and later their own company, in which the neuroses of middle-class people were engagingly mocked. It's funny in its own right.
