Sex & Nudity

  • An adult teen male has his girlfriend over at nights. On one occasion the sound of his bed thumping keeps others awake. Once, the couple are seen in towels obviously having showered together. These scenes are short.
  • Twelve-year-olds, a boy and a girl, kiss romantically for several seconds.
  • Conversations and scenes of people emerging from bedrooms show that various middle-age couples and an older couple, all one-on-one male/female, are sleeping together. One woman announces she is pregnant. An unseen friend is implied to sleep around.
  • A man in a bubble bath shows arm motion that may have been masturbation, but this lasts about 3 seconds and is not at all certain.
  • There are occasional brief mentions of love and sex by kids: that a dad is "screwing" a woman; that a large TV will be great for watching "x-rated" movies; that a boy and girl are in love. A younger child is told that parents are "playing doctor", which is a "game for old folks."
  • In non-sexual situations, adult women are seen without shirts, in bras, for a few seconds once or twice, and men are seen without shirts. A father criticizes a 14-year-old's shorts and mutters about how he looked at girls when he was that age.
  • A painting of a woman shows full frontal nudity for several seconds. Later a girl covers the painting's breasts and bush with post-it notes, which remain in place for the rest of the film.
  • A 4-year-old boy is shown on a toilet, and a slightly older girl says "I see your pee-pee", but his clothes hide everything -- nothing is seen. Another scene shows these two in a bubble bath, in their underpants, splashing each other and a parent standing outside the tub.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is punched in the face and we later see some blood and then a bandage.
  • A door swings into a woman's face and we later see some blood and a bandage.
  • There are arguments, and a plate is smashed on the floor.
  • A young kid playing a video game suggests "try to kill the bad guy."

Profanity

  • As English subtitled, the adults and the kids occasionally use exclamatory vulgarity, mainly "f*ck" and "sh*t", averaging about once every 5 or 10 minutes. Hostile usage by adults included a few of "a$$hole", and one each of "piss" and "bitch". There was also a "hell", a "stinkybutt", and an "oh my god."
  • The subtitled dialog reads smoothly and coherently in English or in French. But not only the English but even the French subtitles regularly leave out words and short phrases that were spoken, so there may be additional relevant audible language for French speakers.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Adults and adult teens routinely drink alcohol socially and at dinner. One woman is briefly shown slightly inebriated at a wedding. As is not uncommon in France, a middle teen once is allowed a glass of wine at dinner with parents present; this is quick, and easy to miss.
  • A woman discovers her mom and an adult teen smoking a joint, and partakes; it's a relatively short scene. A man is shown smoking a joint while bathing, it's barely noticeable. One character smokes cigarettes several times and is urged to keep it outside. No other drugs are mentioned or portrayed.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Kids five and under might be slightly scared when the characters enter a dark, slightly spooky building, while lightning flashes through the windows.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • We hear a 14-year-old girl and guy conversing in preparation for first-time sex. They lie down on a sofa out of sight, and a bra is thrown over the top. Nothing happens and she hasn't undressed; this is a con to get the girl's father - whom they know is watching via a webcam - to actually visit in person for a change, and pay her some attention.
