Herstory of Armanian genocide!
In a strong revolutionary study of her origins, Tulin Ozdemir launches her quest for her true identity as a turkish woman in her film Au-delà de l'Ararat. She tries to reconstruct the history of Turkey with an attempt to revive what has happened during the Armanian genocide, and she does so through giving voice to the true witnesses and remains of this culture, letting them recount her.stories instead of histories. She makes clear one's identity is interrelated to past and memory and she critics the governments who avoid a self-criticism on their history and ignore their past. The language of this documentary is very literary, poetic and feminine. The sound effects are of great quality. There are strong pertinent images and symboles used which show the depth of her self-awareness and study (apart from the beautiful meaningful scenes and sounds, images like dance, window, embroidery, singing, etc. are among the powerful ones). The women she meets in her quest all share the same language despite their regional, religious and age diversity. Tulin Ozdemir shows in her documentary that the cries of the slaughtered Armanians never dies and that the frontiers and governments are not to separate us from our identical origins.
