Mediocre pop music by two easily recognizable voices (and artists)

Here we have the music video for the song "Can't Remember to Forget You" from 2014, so this one is almost five years old already now. But this period of time means nothing of course if we take a look at how long singers Rihanna and Shakira are already enjoying successful careers. One from the Bahamas, the other from Columbia, so this is a pretty multi-cultural collaboration we have here and while it is certainly not the biggest success career-wise for either, it is still a pretty decent success as this film made it into the top10 in countries all across the planet. Oh yeah the director is Joseph Kahn and he has worked on many very successful music videos already, so it's no real surprise that these two heavyweight singers got a very successful man in charge behind the camera as well. What is the best thing here? Well, maybe that it is so easy to identify the two singers because of the great recognition value their voices got. But that's really all the positive I can come up with aside from Shakira's looks. There's over 10 years between these two, but it is not showing at all I must say. How stunning the Columbian still is is pretty unreal. Like she hasn't aged at all. Now for the song. It isn't too catchy and honestly the chorus sounds a bit rocky ummm rugged may be the better word perhaps in terms of grammar and the metaphor and contradiction used between "remember" and "forget". It's certainly not as smooth as it was intended. Besides that, the song is also not challenging at all. Sure I liked the color of Shakira's voice (and also a bit Rihanna's), but it just isn't enough. At under 4 minutes it was also a really short music video here and visually I was not impressed either. It's really enough if you just listen to the record. Besides I must say from how the two singers are sexualized in here in terms of their depiction on a big bed, even with them making out almost during one moment before the camera movies away, I feel it's kinda difficult to hear any of these two says something about female rights and equality in the future and that it feels authentic. Even if admittedly, a great deal of the music video feels pretty aesthetic. For example I quite liked the scenes when we have Shakira with a rock guitar standing in the water. When their two butts are this close making movements, not so much. All in all a pretty forgettable outcome overall. I cannot agree with the success it had and give it a thumbs-down. Go for something else instead.
