Fun!
BandSAboutMovies24 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Dom (director and co-writer Josh Stifter) is about to give up on his chase to find cryptozoological phenomena and maybe move out of his mom's basement, but when he gets a video that shows a real chupacabra, he gets Miles (Keith Radichel) and they head out in the woods to have strange dreams and find whatever that skeleton they trip over out there in the darkness on the land that belongs to Doug Greywood (co-writer Daniel Degnan).

When this movie ramps up - and it does - it gets dark and gory while remembering that it's also a combination black and white creature feature and a buddy comedy about two friends trying to fix their ruined relationship while finding a living and breathing actual goat sucker.

There's not much else out there like this movie, shot on the smallest of budgets yet having the biggest of hearts. It's absolute fun and you should do whatever you can to check it out.

Fun but Flawed

I thought it was a really good effort, and it had some pretty good things going on. It had some horror comedy vibes too. The pacing is a bit off, especially in the first half, before things really kick off. The first half could have been edited better too.

I thought the lead and his best friend worked well, and things between them seemed really natural. There is a part where an urban legend is told and there's an animation to it, I actually really liked that. I think if they would have had a couple more stories like that, linked to (but not giving it away) the twist. I think it would have helped some of the long spaces at the begging.

The choice to film in black and white was a good one. I think when things kick off, the creature effects for the most part look good. And I think shooting in black and white probably helped with this. And when things get going, I did find it more enjoyable. It was just getting there.

A massively underwhelming and disappointing genre effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder24 September 2022
After his video-blogger career dies out, a hapless loser intrigued by the paranormal and cryptids finds the potential scoop of a lifetime investigating a strange creature sighted on a local's property, but once he and a friend get there find the devious nature of their summoning to put them in danger.

There isn't much to like here as even the positives aren't that good. Most of these features are centered around the final half hour where this one finally turns into a genre effort for the first time and delivers on the genre promise of its storyline. Taking a gruesome turn involving the fates of both individuals, the film's decision to split them up and offer up several intriguing and gruesome outcomes for the guys in this section offers a lot of fun here where it delves into a mad doctor experimenting on the physical body that offers a fine series of make-up work on the creatures or the fun chase through the woods with the creatures chasing them. This all comes across as the only impressive part of the film due to the use of genuinely creepy effects-work and solid action depicting the crazy shenanigans playing out here. There are some big problems to be had with this one. The main detriment to be had here is the generally underwhelming and unappealing pace throughout here where it takes way too long to get to the interesting factors of the story. The first half that focuses not just on their failed vlog but his depressing social life living with his mother with no friends or respect in the industry goes on way too long to be of any kind of enjoyment, and by hammering home factors that don't make this one any more appealing for the main characters. These are instead energy-draining and irritating by holding up the pace of what's going on which is just as dull and repetitive as the scenes of them going through the woods unable to find anything useful to film which just makes for a generally bland experience. On top of these factors, there are a few other issues here that manage to hold this one down. While the video that gets them out to the woods to investigate matters is quite effective, there's very little to tell that as the decision to both film it in black-and-white and focus on an irritating glare across the screen makes it nearly impossible to see what's going on which renders the main selling point of the film's story a literal waste of a scene. Moreover, the whole point of the finale makes no sense as the entire thing revolves around an utterly uninteresting and unworthwhile surgical procedure that goes unexplained as to the whole purpose beyond cryptic pseudo-intellectual nonsense that doesn't make any of their actions all the more intriguing. Alongside a confusing show-draining animation sequence for a random backstory, there are some detrimental factors at play here.

Rated Unrated/R: Language and Graphic Violence.

Fun horror/comedy movie
rick-a-caplan27 November 2020
This is indie horror/comedy with endearing characters and plenty of humor has a fantastic energy and flows really well. It's a fun, character-centric movie that builds up to and delivers on the promise of a gory conclusion.

Amazing piece in my eyes

When watching films like this, you have to go in with an open mind, these filmmakers didn't have the budget that other studios do and yet when watching I could see the hat tips to the directors that inspired this filmmaker. I feel that as far as entertainment goes, that this film didn't fail that, yeah there was some acting issues but in the end the story was cool, the fx and make-up were on point and the scary were creepy and scary. This film was a hidden gem on tubi and shouldn't be judged so harshly. I don't feel that i waisted my time watching this film and will actually likely recommend to other people for a fun watch.
