Both director Antonio Adamo and his distributor daring! Media tried something completely different with "Romans", a Gay porn spin off of their expensive trilogy "Roma". With standing sets and crew at the ready, why not?
This sort of crossover has been done before in porn on rare occasions, one being a Jamie Gillis doubleheader "Los Banditos" and "South of the Border", one Gay and one boy/girl.
Result is not very interesting, though the sex is explicit, the guys okay looking, and the novelty of throwing in some pompous little speeches of historical intent is almost amusing. Removing them would merely reveal the wall-to-wall sex nature of the project, though the "Roma" sets and period costumes set it apart. I guess the most obvious and successful prototype for this was John Christopher's "Centurians of Rome", back in the Porno Chic era.
Though irrelevant to the sex content, one actor enunciates his English dialog extremely well, adding to an overall element of craftsmanship normally not found in this genre. But the drama and intrigue developed in Adamo's companion trilogy is absent.
