Amazing show! Helping break the stigma! Read if in doubt!
jamesmasevil12 November 2018
My main reason for writing this review is to persuade anyone who is doubting watching this show due to the stigma that is associated with the use of psychoactive drugs. It's an amazing show with a deep message that should not be ignored. It shows the culture, works to understand rather than promote society's one-sided message. Alcohol and cigarettes are more dangerous than half these drugs and ARE LEGAL, and neither give you profound insight into yourself and the environment around you. Getting into a damn car can be more dangerous if your not RESPONSIBLE. any one who is opposed to the use of these drugs should also be opposed to doing anything more dangerous, but they aren't, and only because they're scared, afraid of letting go and accepting that there might be something outside the box they live in, so they deem it insane. please strive to find your own meaning, open your mind, and live your life because it will fade but the present is were you'll find meaning!

Well done, enjoyable, and actually informative.

These are not episodes full of rehashed facts you already knew, rather often revealing about things that you didn't know that you didn't even know. Most episodes feel like coming along for a journey with the host in the spirit of discovery. Best documentary series thus far on the subject.

Fascinating series on psychoactives and psychedelics

Warning: Spoilers
Hamilton Morris is a young documentarian with a background in chemistry and botany and a great interest in psychoactive drugs and plants. Each episode covers a different one. He usually covers some of the history including people who are proponents of the various drugs. Psilocybin, MDMA, Sonoran toads, Phenecycledine, Ketamine etc...On most episodes he self doses and reports his reaction as well. There was a huge negative governmental and cultural reaction to this whole category of drugs in the Sixties and Seventies. Recently some of these got a second chance and are being researched medically and scientifically. Cancer and end of life patients are being treated with some of these to deal with the challenges of life threatening disease or end of life. I have consumed many of these mostly 30-40 years ago. I think he shines a much needed light on this topic in a very interesting way. By the way the drugs that are on the more dangerous side they are really good about warning people to have some guidance.

Loved this show!

I hope Hamilton keeps making more seasons on it. Finished the whole 3 seasons and it was truly amazing. Psychedelics are so stigmatized in our society and we need to break it by giving them more awareness of its benefits and amazing possibilities it offer.

Season 3 is Hamilton's best yet.
noalear4 March 2021
If I were rating each season they'd each get a 10/10, but season 3 is on another level. The amount of love and care given to each of these episodes is astounding. Hamilton is out there speaking to real people in their own language, enlightening me on things I didn't even know existed. It is a serious (usually) take on what this stuff is and what it does. These are world-class experts in a variety of fields telling you what they think. I can't show enough love to Hamilton for getting real information out there.

One of the best...

Things about it is he is a super intelligent highly trained professional chemist. Tell him Jefferson airplane used to buy lots of laughing gas back in the day. I'm 74 & the 1st lsd I had was Sandoz. Years later I interviewed Albert Hoffman on my radio talk show('86-88) "new age forum" from UCSB. Met him at their psychedelic conference. Also met Tim Leary there. He couldn't do individual interviews so we held a press conference I videotaped

Brilliant

Very well done non-biased documentaries about drugs. I absolutely love Hamilton Morris!

This is a must watch especially since most people have consumed anti-drug propaganda their whole lives and don't have an accurate understanding of them or the culture around them.

Best show on Vice
chrislawuk4 December 2022
I have been a big fan of Hamiltons fathers documentaries for a long time. Errol Morris has been creating some of the most fascinating American documentaries since the late 70's. So, I was very happy when I found out his son Hamilton, was carrying on the family tradition.

These episodes are not only about the drugs and their effects on the body, but the cultures in which they are used. He goes to great extents, traveling internationally, to cover his substance and its roots in human culture in detail.

Each season seems to get a little better production quality wise, as he continues to track down the forefathers of the users of these substances, and interviews some really interesting individuals in the history of science, psychedelia and such like.

Then there is the production of the drugs side of things, where he meets chemists from various backgrounds, and breaks down in detail how they make the drugs. Some of them are high level chemists working on cutting edge research, too the undergound hippy or criminal org's, producing for the black market.

The series have all the hallmarks of quality documentary film making. You will be hard pushed to find anything else better researched, or as informative on the subject.

The best Series covering Drugs of All time!
jezuzwest23 May 2022
If you are interested in the broad subject of drugs this show has everything that to make learing about them fun and informative.

Great editing, humor, thrilling storylines, exotic exursion, rigorous research, whacky anecdotes that you can tell your firends, you name it.

Hamiolton is presenting balanced and critical comentary trough an scientific and evidence based Lens, while also letting the interviewed speak for themselfs, without any filters or propagateing any agenda except to understand the subject at hand.

Truly a masterfull work have never seen something close to this, I hope he decides to produce a fourth season even tough he said he wouldn't.

Biased toward insanity.
techaiken5 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Very informative and thought provoking. The overall theme seems to be: "These substances should be studied, not banned" after a few episodes, you can quickly see why these substances are banned. The episode on Frog venom, for instance, if the first two users in the episode, had been on that riverbank alone, meaning just the two of them smoking the venom, they both would be dead, the first from drowning and the second from asphyxiation on his own vomit. This show should be a hallmark on why not to use these substances, like the DMT Shaman who begins expanding on the pizza gate conspiracy theory , to now include cannibalism, or the Ketamine proponent who talked about being inhabited by an angel and turns into a Dolphin, you can quickly deduce why some of these substances have the opposite effect of "Medicinal". This show is not for impressionable easily led people. Almost none of the substances should be used without supervision, and that should be the warning stamp on the entire series, again informative and thought provoking, some science, but a lot of it borders on pseudoscience, and outright ridiculousness.
