Ugh. I am not by any measure an expert on firearms and/or antiquities, but my first step in looking over the Schofield revolver would have been to check the serial number.
It is actually well known that Jesse James used serial number 366 and (possibly) also 273. Frank James used serial numbers 3444 and 5476. Cole Younger used serial number 2341.
If the weapon in this episode had a serial number different from those then it would be extremely unlikely to have belonged to Jesse James.
This is terrible investigative procedure, certainly not professional. It makes me wonder what gaffes take place on the other episodes of this series.
