The Funeral
claudio_carvalho4 February 2020
In Kattegat, there is the funeral of Lagherta and Torvi volunteers for the human sacrifice to accompany her friend to Valhalla. However Gunnhild does not accept since she is pregnant and another young woman is accepted. Bjorn arrives in time to see the ceremony. Ivar receives a message from Dir. Olaf confronts King Harald and he promises to jail Olaf.
"The Ice Maiden" is an episode dedicated basically to Lagherta´ s funeral and farewell. The other two storylines with Ivar and Harald are short and basically nothing happens. My vote is seven.

First this is not a just episode this is truly like "painted art of Vikings historical " this episode blow me away from start to finish... Funeral organization was stunning with music and sacrifices ..beautiful costumes and location and sad dark atmosphere ,phenomenal acting from "Alexander Ludwig "(Bjorn) ,I don't know what to say but this episode cut me deep inside of me I cried a whole episode.. Like lagertha was on my family to.. As a guy Because the reaction scene of Bjorn when he saw (kattgate) empty and he dropped tears , that's how I feel when I got to check on my mom on hospital and there's no one there in room.. This episode really hurts me.anyways . Fantastic job from all crew u really put a hard work on this episode and thank u so much for this aesthetically significant episode.
Sublime and phenomenal

After last weeks action packed ep this was emotionally heartfelt. The direction, cinematography, acting and music were spectacular and that ending in the water was jaw dropping. Hats off to everybody and thanks for bringing back Vikings. Hopefully all leading to a masterful ending.
This series and this season deserves more attention

Episodes like this reminds me why this is one of my top shows of all time.
Will miss Lagertha intensely, but what a send-off she received, worthy of her legacy in this story. Absolutely blown away, tears were steaming down my cheeks when the credits rolled.
Over Drama

Why is Lagertha so important? What did she achieve? Did she find the way to England? Did she initiate the siege of Paris? Did she make all Norway rich? No. She was just one of Ragnar's commanders. Also, she killed Aslaug unnecessarily. Even Ragnar was never given such a large funeral. Everyone hated him when he died. There was a lot of unnecessary drama in this episode. They even showed valkyries. They didn't do that to Ragnar. This was the most boring episode of the series. Even the sand sculpture of Ragnar excited me more. Sorry, Lagertha fans. I can't help it. When you are an Aslaug fan, you can't feel sad about Lagertha. Go Lagertha, go to see Ragnar with Aslaug!
Who's cutting onions in here?

Feels Hollow and Meaningless

Vikings used to be one of my favorite shows, but I feel like it has gone down the same rabbit hole Game of Thrones did.
The characters have been losing their soul for a few seasons now. They act on things that they shouldn't care about, they care about things that should have little to no meaning to them, and they seem to know things that they never have any way of learning. I am getting the impression that the writers are just inducing drama for the sake of getting people to watch episodes week to week, and there is nothing necessarily wrong with that, but when it stops making sense with the characters involved it starts to feel very artificial.
I was very excited to see what they would do with this episode, but in the end I just felt really disappointed. There is no immersion in the show any more, I feel like I am watching people act rather than being absorbed into the world of the Vikings.
It's harder to watch a good show on a decline than it is to watch an average show the whole way through.

I don't usually rate or review individual episodes, but...

This was without a doubt one of the best episodes of Vikings, not only because of Lagertha's majestic funeral, but all in all it was filled with magic, mystery and the anticipation of great things to come... And in the words of Björn Ironside: "the world has changed"... Yet speaking of Björn, his eulogy of his mother made me wanna go hug my own mother... Truly so touching.

What an epic farewell and honor to tradition

What a breathtaking, heartfelt ending to a legend in the series. The manner in which this episode honored d Viking traditions, as so many already have stated left me breathless, choked up, and close to tears. I will never forget this episode! By far one of the top three in its series if not the best, not taking anything away from Ragnar Lothbrok.
Magical

No huge battles, no intruiging plots, but a magical funeral for Lagertha, great music and effects. Goodbye Lagertha, now may the story move on! Hvitserk also seems to have snapped out of his drug spree which was my hope. I seriously hope he lives otherwise it would be for nothing.
uninteresting

I did not expect such a bad episode of Vikings and I am really surprised by the 10/10 ratings it's received. It was strictly about a funeral on a slow motion - the whole episode! We all liked Lagertha, especially in the earlier seasons, but watching a 40-minute funeral (on slow motion), that did not deliver anything new to the series or Vikings' history that we have not previously seen, was nothing but pointless. The dialogue, the visuals, the "new" ideas looked flat and uninteresting and with zero creativity, especially due to their cheap ambition to look epic.
And to those that rated it 10/10 I have a question - if you really so looooved it, would you watch it again?.Exactly my point.
I am sorry, I love the series, including Lagertha's character VERY MUCH, but this episode was just frustratingly pathetic.

So, finally we have to say goodbye to the beautiful and brave Lagertha. Such a moving episode but a perfect send-off for the great woman. The scene where her spirit cuddled up to her beloved Ragnar brought me to tears.
Also in this episode, we are wondering what the hell is going on with Oleg and his wife who is the double of the wife Ivar killed!

Its true that i have felt this episode rather different from what Vikings usually should be. But come on!! It was a great episode with much emotions and extraordinary visuals. They worked a lot on this one to make it hits so hard. Lagertha was more different and stubborn character than other female leads in many historical series and they've given her a great farewell amidst of the fall of the glory of Vikings. Especially that last scene was a gem that we got between the disappointing downfall of the series.
