An excellent finale to this sixth series.

At the time of writing this, The Two Deaths of Hercule Flambeau sits at the top of the rankings, as the best episode to date of the show. It is very good, but not deserving of sitting at the top of the pile, that accolade surely belongs to the face of the enemy. I love it when John Light makes his annual appearance as Flambeau, as always he's tremendous, he always elevates an episode. He is joined by the much missed star from Death in Paradise Sara Martins, who is just fabulous, a mega talented actress, who adds a huge deal of glamour. She is fantastic in this, and combines well with John Light, the pair share some great scenes.

The acting is spot on, the production values, costumes etc, are great, the sets are particularly good. I knocked a few points off for the story itself, it was too similar to the Mystery of the Rosary, another Flambeau story, with a similar plot.

It's good, very good, but there are definitely better episodes. I already cannot wait for Series 7.

over joyed to see the return of a wonderful character and the inclusion of fantastic actress to a brand new role

I am a fan of the show and was over joyed to see the return of a wonderful character and the inclusion of fantastic actress to a brand new role

I was very happy to initially hear (was not looking at the screen) the return of a truly fantastic performer to UK and BBC screens. I have no knowledge of the source material but the new to the BBC show was a moment of geniuses and the casting was truly inspired

The story is good the performances are top line from new and old and the outcome somewhat seen it coming but it is nice so all in all good fun is had

I hope we see the new character again as the actress as you can see is magnificent some one who is good at their Job

Guest starring Sara Martins

Warning: Spoilers
It's wonderful to see Sara Martins of Death in Paradise guest starring in the season six finale of Father Brown. Sara plays Lisandra Flambeau, the wife of Hercule Flambeau. There's a lot of double crossing going on in this episode, with the viewer left wondering who lives and who survives amidst the poisonings and attempted murders and so on.

Anyway, it's a shame Sara Martins hasn't made further guest appearances in Father Brown, but hopefully the writers will see the sense of bringing her back especially as she no longer stars in Death in Paradise.

Also, I'm enjoying catching up with Father Brown during the daytime viewing.

Kit lambert' s FLAMBEAU story the best this season

Flambeau's character very engaging. I loved the surprises. I shall look out for Kit Lambert's stories now. This has been the best Father Brown programme of this winter!. I do look forward to watching them on these dull cold winter afternoons, but have enjoyed this story more than those with over sophisticated characters

The Two Deaths of Hercule Flambeau
Prismark1012 January 2018
Father Brown meets Death in Paradise as Sara Martins is the guest star as Flambeau's widow!

Father Brown reads in the newspaper that Flambeau was killed over Christmas in Italy. His widow Lisandra then contacts Father Brown about a key that Flambeau might had sent him.

At the same time Gloucester Cathedral are due to receive the Iron Crown of Lombardy, made from a nail from the Crucifixion of Jesus.

Father Brown must decide if this is all a rouse to steal the Iron Crown.

Flambeau episodes are always special as their is always great interplay between him and Father Brown as well as plenty of green screen. This episode has lots of twists and turns but the central story of a valuable religious artifact doing a tour of Britain that is at risk of being stolen by Flambeau has been done before.

A mixed bag for me.

Warning: Spoilers
The sixth season of a "Father Brown" has been very up and down for me. The season has had two disappointing episodes: "The Tree of Life", "The Kembleford Dragon", two awful entries:" The Dance of Death" and especially "The Cat of Mastigatus", two good: "The Face of the Enemy","The Devil you Know" and three decent ones: "The Angel of Mercy", "The Flower of the Fairway" and "The Two Death of Hercule Flambeau", which was a fun watch, but could have been way better.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are as usual great in this entry. The direction and the music's wonderful. The acting is quite good too. Sara Martins and Oliver Ford Davies are enjoyable. John Light's brilliant. Every time he's on the screen, he is very likable, even though his character's a ruthless theif.

. There are some clever twists and turns in the story. Many double crossings between Hercule and Missis Flambeau happen and it was such a fun to watch.

But....

. The story left me quite cold at first. I couldn't get into the fuss about the crown and the character of Canon Ford was very annoying and bit too similar to other annoying side characters in the TV shows I've watched. Ford's coldness to Father Brown, who was doing everything to help, was unnecessary and didn't propel the story along.

Overall, a mixed bag of an episode, but ends a season on a fine note.
