This is the most interesting episode in this season as it actually offers a great possibility for character and plot development.
NCIS agents, with help of drunken Arkady Kolchek, are trying to find dangerous weapons dealer, Abram Sokolov. All of them cross path with Anna Kolchek, now working for ATF, join forces and the episode unfolds in its usual manner: portion of fast cars, lots of guns, beautiful women in distress and some (cheap) humor.
But, as the end nears and the viewer is already prepared for the bad guys to die and good guys to take their ladies for a drink, two unexpected things happen.
First, Eric Beal shoots a guy. Killing is not an unusual occurrence in NCIS Los Angeles, but Eric is the most unlikely candidate to do so. While he occasionally shows interest in field work, he does not carry a weapon and is rather comfortable with his role as OSP's Tech Operator. When he finds himself in a shooting situation, he grabs a gun and shoots. It will be interesting to see if this incident will result in him wanting to do more field work, or will he reject this idea in its entirety. We see him saying "I am cool", but we will see what happens.
Second, Anna Kolchek shoots an unarmed Abram Sokolov. We see her run after the suspect out of the building, catches up with him, tells him to get down on his knees, but we do not see the exact moment she shoots. When Callen arrives, few second later, he finds the man dead and asks: "here is his gun?" But, there is no gun. The concept of an agent shooting an unarmed man has not yet been exploited in this series, and it will be very interesting to see how this plot will unfold.
Hopefully in the next episodes we will see the aftermath of both events.
