An Interesting Yarn
Hitchcoc21 March 2019
If you're made out of crocheted yarn, a simple nail or peg in the wall can put you out of business. In this one, a green dinosaur is friends with a red fox. One day, as the dinosaur jumps off a shelf, a bit of him catches on a nail and he soon begins to unravel. His friend begins to do what he can to stop the process.

Touching while also being technically impressive

I'm not sure why stopmotion animation impresses me more than other types - perhaps it is because I can understand how it was made to the point where I am amazing anyone can do it like that and make it so good. That is the case here, where the animation is wonderfully real and tactile. The wool of the two main characters (stuffed toys) is one thing, but the animation of water and other elements adds another layer. You may not notice this on your first watch through though, because the film does a good job of engaging in the drama and tragedy of the moment.

This scene involves one of the toys at risk, and the other putting themselves at risk to try to save them, because of love. It is simple but dramatic, and it is not afraid to hurt the viewer either, giving a good dose of the tragic while also managing to be touching and bittersweet. There isn't really a weak link in the delivery - the animation is impressive, the content is convincingly real and accessible, and the viewing experience is rewarding. Great little short.

Possibly the best film about love in any medium ever

Warning: Spoilers
The look of the piece is beautiful...a small Japanese restaurant with a garden alongside. Two animals made of yarn, a dinosaur and a fox , are to be found on the lost and found shelf of the business and have had the run off the place after dark. They truly love each other as is demonstrated by flashbacks during the story. I suspect that the title of the film may rely on the idea that each was at one time lost but they have found one another and live in a world happily apart from that of humans. The fox who seems to be representative of a female falls into a wishing well. The dinosaur immediately thinks of a way to possibly save her but to do so will require sacrificing his very being.. The fox becomes aware of this and tries to prevent the end of his existence at the cost of her own. Possibly the events are recollections by the fox but I suspect not as she would have to add her impressions of what her friend was thinking in his final moments.. The conclusion to the story may not be the end of their pairing as the fox is determined to knit the dinosaur back together . Being a magical creature she maybe able to do so or she may be able to have him return by making a wish at the wishing well which is what she was doing at the story's beginning if this is a flashback in the fox's mind her presence at the well and throwing pebbles into it would well fit,,,she is wishing for her friend's return. I would have chosen a different ending tho the one in place is the most powerful. The fox may be able to win the day...their love is that strong. I appreciated that not only did they love each other , they liked one another as much as thinking creatures are able to do .It is unthinkable that the fox will spend the rest of her days without her partner. 10/10

I thought this was pretty sweet

Warning: Spoilers
"Lost & Found" is an Australian animated short film from 2018 that runs for a bit over 8 minutes and was made by Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe and they received a fair amount of awards recognition for their effort here. And deservedly so i would say because this was a well-done film. It includes no spoken dialogue, so you can watch it wherever you are from and which languages you speak and unless you really hate animation, I think you should. It made the list of 10 potential Oscar nominees for Best Animated Short, but a bit surprisingly it did not get into the last 5. Disappointing in my opinion. It is better and more known than at least two of the nominees, but oh well this lack of an Academy Award nomination should not keep this film from being seen by as many as possible. Toys or stuffed toys are frequently used in animated movies, of course there is that one franchise, but also beyond that. Here we have a male dinosaur and a female fox who are in love and things get serious when the fox is about to drown. Can the dinosaur make it in time to save her? And what will be the price? I will admit that the film needed a little while to really draw me in and that the beginning was not as great as the second half, but that is mostly because the longer it goes the better it becomes and the ending is genuinely sweet and emotional. And with that I don't mean the epilogue although that one is fine too and it takes a bit away from the questionable idea of self-sacrifice as obviously the fox' affaction is big enough to try all she can to bring him back no matter how long it takes. Yeah I really have no idea why the Academy did not like this one that much. Maybe the characters weren't cute enough or the story wasn't meaningful enough or they sometimes like a sinister element to make sure it is not just one film for kids. But even without these elements (oh I to me they were cute enough!) , it really would have deserved the nomination and had it managed to get it, it would have been my second favorite for the win. So yeah, you should check out "Lost & Found" for sure. It is one of the best animated films, not just short films from 2018. I give it a thumbs-up and recommend seeing it. The music works very well too.

Lovely but a bit depressing.

"Lost & Found" is a short animated film by Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe. I am not sure if they actually used stop-motion or used CGI to make it look like stop-motion. Regardless, it's a simple and somewhat depressing tale.

The story begins with a cute toy, a knitted fox, falling into a fountain and it appears to be drowning. Its friend, a stuffed knitted T-Rex, tries to come to the rescue but becomes entangled on a nail...and unravels more and more as it tries to get to its friend.

The stuffed creatures and set look great. The music is also quite good and really works well. The only reason I gave this marvelously made film a score of only 6 is that it is depressing and the ending left me very flat. However, considering how lovely the picture is, I sure hope to see more from these folks.

gem

I love the croched toys. For the flavor about a lost time. But this short film... . It gives one of the most powerful love stories who you imagine. It is impecable crafted. And the emotion created by it remains, for long, lomg time, as a splendid refuge and magnificent eulogy of love. A gem. An admirable, sad and great one.A foxxy, her friends , the dinosaurus and an Japaness inn and garden. A sacrifice out of words. And the fruit of it. All - just superb.
