Unnecessary melodrama and stupid decisions
arneshsengupta24 May 2020
Come on man, Nathan could just have told her he was out of gigs, or Nora could have used the VR thing instead of calling him, I hate when characters making stupid decisions pushes a story forward. Also basically no advancements in the story and Nathan's coding ability seems to basically be a superpower. Literally nothing was tied up in the finale and more happened in the penultimate episode than this one.

Oh COME ON!!!
FutureFilmer4 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show is great and not what I expected but come on!!! I need more!!! I don't usually do single episode reviews but I need to do one for this season finale. Hell, I haven't posted a review on IMDb in a while.

So Nathan decided to go to 2Gigs because he broke up with his girlfriend, Ingrid. Nora and Nathan finally reveal their true feelings to each other. Nathan only pretended not to remember Nora but felt embarrassed in doing so. While talking to Nathan after he had downgraded to 2Gigs, a man (who I suppose is involved with sabotaging Nathan's car) trues to kill Nora. Nathan decides to use up his gigs to help Nora escape. As soon as Nora was back safe in her own home, Nathan was running very low on Gigs for the month.

Realizing he no longer can talk, she decides to go on a trip with Byron. Then the ending came, a surprise ending I didn't even think would happen this soon. Ingrid arrives but not through VR... she killed herself just to be with him!!! HOW??? I need more. Also, I don't trust that car Nora and Byron went into. What if that one was sabotaged as well...?

This show is certainly a surprise. The trailers may have made it look bad but if you gave it a shot, you just might like it.

Cliffhanger Central!
dewlover4209 May 2020
Glad this was renewed! I wasn't sure what to expect with this show or if I'd even like it, but it ended up being alright!

Not as good as The Good Place or as funny as King Of the Hill or The Office, but I think I like it as much or more than Parks and Recreation which is saying something!

(I don't love that show but I like the mockumentary style more!)

Glad this was renewed because I think it'll be better in Season 2 not just because they'll understand the show better, but because I think there'll be more conspiracy related stuff which I personally really enjoy!

(24 is one of the best TV shows ever if that helps you understand what I mean lol!)

I'd give the season as a whole a 7/10, and a majority of the episodes were a 7/10!

Really got sucked in
resqd-218-5585613 May 2020
I went to watch the first episode just to see if I'd like it. Wound up binging the whole thing. Andy Allo is just amazing. I really believe her character and she's absolutely beautiful to boot. Robbie Amell's timing for his sense of humor is dead on. Very well acted and written show. I will be anxiously awaiting Season 2!

Funny, charming, inventive!

I loved this series from start to finish. If there were 60 episodes I would binge them all now. The writing, direction, acting & cinematography is all top notch. The cast is perfect. I can't believe how this episode ends, it's the perfect cliffhanger.

Season One Review
southdavid22 May 2020
Greg Daniels reputation is such that anything he's involved with becomes highly anticipated, as was the case with this Amazon Prime series in which he's a producer and wrote four of the episodes.

Set in the near future, "Upload" tells the story of coder Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) who following a car accident has his consciousness uploaded to a digital "heaven" funded by his rich girlfriend Ingrid (Allegra Edwards). The digital heaven offers an "angel" service, real humans who log into the digital world and provide technical and emotional support to the clients. Nathan's angel is Nora (Andy Allo) and the pair form a friendship. But there are gaps in Nathan's memory, specifically related to what he was working on at the time of his death. Could there be something more to his death?

Overall I'd say I enjoyed "Upload" but I wouldn't say that I loved it. It's hard to really say way, I think I liked it when it was more into its comedy and its love story than its murder-mystery aspects. Amell and Allo are great, and there's a fun chemistry between them. Some of the supporting cast are pretty solid, Zainab Johnson and Kevin Bigley have nice chemistry too and I liked the fact that neither of our leads other love interests, though having bad characteristics, are completely bad people. Ingrid isn't entirely self-serving and vacuous and Jamie, played by Jordan Johnson-Hinds, doesn't remain a playboy hook up.

The show is funny, when it's trying to be. With gags about current technology and issues transposed to a future. The technical aspects of running and maintaining a digital heaven are fun but the murder mystery occasionally acts like an anchor holding the show down. Particularly as threads of it, such as the murder of the investigator, are seemingly never discussed again. I'm prepared for anyone to say that I'm over thinking it, but I also struggled to follow the rules for touching and movement in and around the virtual world. Occasionally, when the plot wanted it too, you had to wear gloves or full suits for touching, whilst at other times it didn't seem to matter, occasionally Nora had to log in at work and at other times could access from home. Plus, at one point a character takes an object from the real world and hands it to a character in the virtual one.

I don't want to sound too down on a show that, as I say, I mostly enjoyed but it's not quite as top tier as I think, with a bit of refocusing, it could have been.

Series is good. This episode is so-so.
RecordScratchReview22 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I will keep this short-ish and sweet.

This series is good; a mix of funny and very interesting storyline. I have enjoyed it a lot so far.

This specific episode is so annoying! -she decides she doesn't like him anymore, based off one memory of him choosing to get money to help his family move up in the world. But, then later loves him. -murderer is idiotic. Nathan pretty much slaughters him, (could have just trapped him in there for police) but no one cares about that... just that he wanted to sell code for money. His job... -he lies about remembering her. But then tells someone out loud he does remember... but he knows she could be listening. So that doesn't add up. Then he owns up to it like a second later. Useless. -she tells him he loves her and he doesn't respond. She leaves with Byron. But... she would know he ran out because she knows how two gigs work and that he just used a ton. She even saw him in the two gig room! -etc.

Super overrated
lettremode-6855419 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The writing is very dull and it just feels idiotic. I can accept the silliness of it all through the season, the main couple is cute and everything, but ending the season like this is such a bad testament for the series. I would give the show a 7/10 rating, but because of this lacking episode alone it becomes a 5/10 at most... There's no way someone can let so many story lines down, like a mom that acts as Nathan's or the abandonment of his sweet cousin, crowning it with a disappointment of a finale and still let it be valued as something it's not. Here's hoping for better writing in Season 2, I will sure give it a chance based on the journey.

How can something this good end this bad?
enes-7349525 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this season at first. Everything was great, i binged watched it all season but last few is just bad.

You have everything you need, you have the concept and you have the story why force romance this much? They just fell in love super quickly and it turned into a teenage romance for i don't know why.

I had and have high expectations but i really do hope they will not continue this forced romance storyline. And why is Nathan a hacker suddenly that can hack all city from Lakeviews source code?

poor, predictable, clichee, illogical waste of time
kellindil-759-44882822 December 2021
You could watch previous eps easily and not engage your brain much. However last ep tried to be smart and criminal which just turned ridiculously silly. This series is good as long as it does not pretend to be any good.

It is an interesting series, but the writing is quite flawed
eunbi053029 October 2023
I had a concern as episodes went by that I didn't see it properly addressed at all, Nathan knew that his cousin Fran was investigating his "accident", which she already had some suspicions, however he though so little of his cousin that he brushed her off. Not that long after we see that Fran is killed in the same manner that Nathan was, the next episode Nathan is told by his niece, Nevaeh, that Fran is missing. Nathan had two opportunities to ask his mother about Fran, or even trying to call her, but he never did that. After Fran's death, the show treats her as she is a Jane Doe, why isn't anybody concerned that someone that was investigating an "accident" just disappeared? Not only that, her car ran over a pier fence on broad daylight and there is no news on that? Seems like a huge plothole to me.

Another issue I had, more specifically to this episode, is how Nora knew Nathan was downgraded to 2Gigs, even though she works for another department she is shown to be somewhat aware of how the 2Gigs work, and yet she didn't bother checking him with her VR - like she did earlier in the very same episode - and she just assumed he was ditching her after she said "I love you".

Something interesting though is that 2Gigs are aware that they ran out of data? Because the first thing Nathan says after Ingrid gives him 1 Giga is "I have to call her back", but when he ran out of data they were still on the phone. Shouldn't he said "I love you too" and Ingrid would love that and would make the impact of what she says after even bigger?
