chulmyung26 October 2021
Yoo Seung-ho performed very well in the role of Kang Bok Soo and he was wonderful.

I liked this movie because of its acting. But , The subject of the film was also very good and it is impossible not to mention it.

searingly relatable & sentimental

Most effective coming-of-age drama I've seen in a very long time, that with true emotional value analyzes this particular phase of life with much detail and observation which was like an actual mirror that keeps representing ourselves through its very passion and clear understanding about youngsters and teenagers. Smart writing, effective storytelling with thorough observation and some wonderful filmmaking.

Good Enough
PennyReviews5 February 2019
I had high hopes for this one. The two male leads are two of my favourite actors and I know they always provide good performances. So, at that department I was left very satisfied, as the performances from all the actors and actresses were really good. However, the story was boring. It lacked intensity and it didn't ignite any interest. The plot as well wasn't anything special. It actually started slow and continued slow. The ending was good and satisfying, but there was no surprise or interesting twist happening in the whole drama. So, after the tragedy of the past was revealed, the drama had nothing to offer. So, 6.5 out of 10.

Sigh..where do all these adorable Korean actresses come from ?
lyntonadam14 July 2019
You know that feeling ?

The one where you've been dazzled by the first few episodes and you dare to hope : will this show be great all the way through ? Will the ending be satisfying or hopeless ?

Despite the odd title ( what about "School Daze" ? or "School Of Love and Pain" ? ), the first two episodes in particular sparkle with wit and creativity. Once the core of the plot kicks in a somewhat darker tone arrives, yet there is still plentiful humour to balance the heavy stuff. And yes, it's very enjoyable from A to Z.

An elite private high school is the setting, with the lead couple having gone there at the same time ( & also fallen in love ). He, played by Yoo Seung Ho, was expelled due to an "accident" involving another student, while she, played by Jo Bo Ah, went back as a teacher. Plus he has to return to school as an adult for various reasons.

I'll spare you any more of the plot, since my reviews are more about my opinion and what led me to it ( and when I read your review, I want to know why you're passionate about something instead of getting a list of this scene followed by that scene ) . In this case, cast, script and direction come together very nicely indeed.

The writers have kept my interest right up until the end as the bad guys try one tactic after another to get what they want ( hmm, I wonder if they succeed ? ). They also make some incisive points about the Korean education system : it's apparently weighted in favour of the rich, and the parental pressure on the kids to do well ( with all the attendant negatives ) sadly seems common throughout East Asia. And since I like to be surprised when I watch something, it was good to see a few of these at various times.

As veteran K Drama viewers know, the lead couple must be likable and also have some chemistry. That is most certainly the case here, with JBA being the stand-out in my view. She's just so full of passion and energy and charisma ( and seems to get the best lines ), dominating the screen whenever she's on. It's a much more rounded ( & yes, conventional ) part compared to her work in "Degree Of Love", where she had to be a spoiled, arrogant rich girl and did it well. And credit to her too for accepting such an unsympathetic part ( the fan forums have been hilarious with the ferocity of their venom ; you'd think she was the Korean Cersei Lannister ! ). Anyway, an actor has to be versatile in order to be taken seriously, and perhaps YSH needs to challenge himself a bit more. He's as adorable here as he was in "I'm Not A Robot", yet that was a more interesting character and I think he needs to be more adventurous. It would've been intriguing to see him play the son of the school owner ( sort of 2nd lead/2nd villain ) and Kwak Dong Yeon is effectively nasty when required. However, we do get to see beyond his nastiness for a change and the show is better for it. Not so for his delightful Mum. She's a complete monster and played with chilling menace. Chun Ho Jin is good as the principled older teacher and all the kids are well played too. Special mention for the delightful and scene-stealing Park Ah In as the hero's "girlfriend" ( to her, not him ), because she lights up the screen ( yes, I know it's a cliché but it's true ! ) whenever she's around. Memo to suits : please give her a lead role !

Problems ? Well, nothing major. The other teachers could've been more interesting; we get a half-hearted love affair but not much else of note. Evil Mum might also have been more fun : of course keep her horrible, yet what about having her drive herself around instead of using a chauffeur ? And make it an old car which keeps breaking down because she'd too stingy to spend, while sonny enjoys his posh new car and mocks Mum's poor choice.

As I said, nothing serious and the show is still very watchable. Is also shot nicely ( as are most K Dramas ),pacing is fine and it has something to say rather than just being a fluffy rom-com.

Has potential but is too weak
hanalisss22 June 2022
Nice attempt, but not enough.

This drama is just weak.

The potential is there but is way too unrealistic and unbelievable.

It has all the cliches ( old romance, revenge, two faced relationships, corruption and abuse of power) but they are not developed well.

There's not enough depth in the relationships and I couldn't sense any bond or emotions beyond what the dialogues would tell.

For me was boring and not worth it.

Wonderful Drama
salehak-1847130 December 2022
Such a woderful drama it has many lessons to learn like you don't have to give up forgiving people overcome with hard times there are also comedy, real friendship, unity, romance and the true love and everything which makes it beautiful. Overall It is worth watching this drama. Male lead smile is enough for making your heart flutter. Relatinoship between Mr park and male lead is just cherry on cake and the relationship between Ms. Son and the wilflower class is litrally too good . This is very good school drama. Male lead mother character is too good. Lastly, watching bok su and ms.son in class is just so cute.

Solid Drama - predictable and not very complex but enjoyable for what it is
leahcubed1 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
8.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2018/2019 South Korean Romantic Drama with 16, 70 minute episodes. An alternate title is "Revenge is Back."

Kang Bok-Soo (Yoo Seung-ho) is a junior at a prestigious high school who does not take school seriously until he is paired up with Song Soo-jung (Jo Bo-ah) when a teacher pairs poor performers with high performers in an attempt to spur the poor performer to higher levels of achievement. Bok-soo is smitten with the feisty and beautiful top student. Oh Se-oh (Kwak Dong-yeon) is the son of the school's chairwoman and Bok-soo befriends him when he is new to the school. Se-oh is psychologically abused by his controlling mother and quickly becomes jealous of Bok-soo for his happy home life and engaging girlfriend. He plots to split up Bok-soo and Soo-jung after a failed suicide attempt by pinning the event on Bok-soo. He convinces Soo-jung that Bok-soo intentionally attempted to hurt him and she testifies against Bok-soo ending their relationship and resulting in Bok-soo being labeled as violent and expelled from the school. Nine years later Bok-soo has led a life struggling doing a series of call as you need it odd jobs for a company is friend created. He has the opportunity to return to the school to finish his studies and decides to take the opportunity to exact his revenge on the two people who betrayed him. Can the young people overcome all of the misunderstandings that led them to this point and forge a new future?

Spoiler alert** From the title I expected Bok-soo to be in a savior role for Bo-ah and he is but only peripherally. It is labeled a romantic comedy on several sites and I found there is very little comedic element to it. It is more of a serious drama with just a few slightly amusing scenes. I think it is a cultural issue but I had a very hard time grasping a person of Bok-soo's age returning to high school. Perhaps it is an issue with my own personal mentality but I would have a very hard time every forgiving someone who had failed to believe in me at a critical point. The fact that a person who is supposed to care about me would believe I had done something so horrible without even asking - I cannot envision getting past that even if it was someone I had been in love with. I would be unable to get over that level of betrayal. I would forgive but only to the level of having that person as a friend but not as a close friend and certainly not as a romantic relationship. That being said I was disappointed that Bok-soo and Se-oh never rekindle their friendship even on a basic level. Bok-soo takes the perspective with Se-oh that what he did was unforgivable. In Se-Oh's case his mother was so abusive that I think she drove him to do it and I felt like Bok-soo should have realized it. He had more of a reason than Soo-jung. I really loved the Bok-soo character he was so loving and loyal to all the people in his life. He also had such a strong sense of justice and would go that extra mile to protrect those he felt were suffering any kind of unfairness or injustice. Bok-soo's mother was also such a kind and caring character it made it easy to see where he would have gotten his traits. This was a very sweet story with only a little bit of complexity but that is okay. Yoo Seung-ho has such a refreshing way of portraying the characters that you root for him because his characters are sweet yet vulnerable.

Sweet and Satisfying Drama
fake_moviestar29 May 2020
I'm not sure why this drama is rated at a 6.3 - it definitely deserves at least a 7, so I am giving it a 7.5 and rounding it up to 8. This drama is pretty straightforward in its story line and plot, its nothing too complex or crazy, but that does not mean it fails to entertain. I was fully engaged for every episode (except the last). The main couple have crazy chemistry, and Bok Su is a wonderful, fun, and charismatic main character who is a delight to watch. The soundtrack was absolutely wonderful, and it was overall a satisfying watch. My only complaint was the last episode was a bit dragged out, and there was an odd camera style during some scenes where the characters looked directly into the camera during really dramatic moments, which was a bit uncomfortable as it felt like a 4th wall break, but it wasn't.

Or very happy, but once the story of the past is the big filter this problem or to change, if a few minutes can also accept, most of the set are memories of killing or big filter is too much. This play is very suitable for unhappy time to watch, a few minutes a laugh.
